The short answer

Double chin removal in Korea usually means liposuction of the fat under the chin. A double chin is most often a layer of fat under the chin and along the jaw, not a bone problem. When that is the cause and your skin still has elasticity, double chin liposuction reduces the fat cells in that area and the line from chin to neck becomes sharper. If the skin has loosened, a lift is added; if the chin bone itself is short, that is a separate contouring operation.

  • First we decide whether the fullness is fat, loose skin or bone, because each has a different operation.
  • Chin and jawline liposuction changes the shape of the lower face, not your body weight.
  • Our liposuction recovery data: peak swelling 7–14 days, back to daily life around 2 weeks, final result around 6 months.
  • Plan at least 10 days in Korea for liposuction, or 14 days if bone contouring is part of the same plan.
  • International patients pay the same surgical fee as Korean patients, confirmed in one itemised written quote.

Is your double chin fat, skin or bone?

The same soft line under the jaw can come from three different places. Most often it is submental fat — a fat layer under the chin that diet and training do not reach. Sometimes the skin itself has loosened. Sometimes the chin bone is short, so the neck and chin run together in profile.

A soft jawline is often fat rather than bone. That matters, because cutting bone for a problem that sits in soft tissue is the wrong trade. When the cause is soft tissue, we suggest liposuction or a lift first, and keep bone surgery — covered on our facial contouring page — for the cases that actually need it.

Who double chin liposuction suits — and who it does not

Liposuction is not a weight-loss operation. It reduces the number of fat cells in one area, and the result only looks smooth when skin elasticity and the fat layer left behind are planned together. These are the situations where it is a reasonable answer.

  • Your weight is in a normal range, but fat under the chin and along the jaw stays however you eat or train
  • The fullness is soft tissue, not a short chin bone
  • Your skin still has enough elasticity to settle onto the new line
  • You can wear the compression garment and keep to the recovery schedule

I also tell people when it is not the right plan. Saying so in consultation is part of the job.

  • Weight loss is the goal — with severe obesity we advise losing weight first, then consulting
  • Skin elasticity is clearly reduced, so suction alone would leave sagging — we discuss a lift alongside
  • You cannot keep to the compression garment and the recovery period
  • An uncontrolled cardiovascular or clotting disorder

Chin liposuction, jawline liposuction, or more than one

Chin liposuction treats the fat pad directly under the chin — the part that shows most in profile. Jawline liposuction treats fat along the lower edge of the jaw, which blurs the line from the front and the three-quarter view. Many of our cases combine the two, because the fullness rarely stops neatly at the chin.

Some plans go further. In our archive you will find double chin removal done together with cheek liposuction, with a chin advancement, or with cheekbone reduction. Each extra area changes the recovery, and bone surgery changes it most.

Common combinations in our facial contouring cases
PlanWhat it changesWhat it adds to recovery
Chin liposuction aloneThe fold under the chin in profileThe liposuction schedule below
Chin + jawline liposuctionThe profile and the jaw edge from the frontThe liposuction schedule, over a larger area
Liposuction + a liftFat and loosened skin at the jaw and neckThe lift's own stitches and follow-up
Liposuction + chin or cheekbone surgeryFat plus the bone frameworkThe facial contouring schedule: stitches out at 10–14 days, at least 14 days in Korea

When sagging, not fat, is the main issue, a lift is the better tool. Our SMAS facelift can treat the cheeks, the jawline and the sagging neck at once, with liposuction done at the same time — you can read about it on the facelift page.

Recovery after double chin liposuction

The table below is our clinic's recovery data for liposuction. A chin-only plan treats a smaller area than body liposuction, so your surgeon confirms your own schedule in writing before the day.

Liposuction recovery timeline (clinic data)
StageWhen
Peak swelling7–14 days
Stitches out7–10 days after surgery
Back to daily lifeAround 2 weeks
Looks naturalAround 3 months
Final resultAround 6 months

Swelling under the chin makes the line look fuller, not sharper, for the first days. That is expected. The new angle from chin to neck appears gradually as the swelling settles, which is why the photos above were taken after the swelling had settled, not in the first week.

Send one photo from the side and one from the front, chin not tucked, and I will tell you whether your double chin is fat, skin or bone.

Double chin removal in Korea: your stay, stitches and fee

Plan to stay at least 10 days in Korea for liposuction. If bone contouring — chin or cheekbone surgery — is in the same plan, stay at least 14 days, because stitches for that come out 10–14 days after surgery. See the stay guide for international patients for the full list by operation.

  • Surgery morning — final consultation and design on your face, with an interpreter in the room; nothing starts until you agree
  • Surgery day — an anesthesiologist stays with you for the whole operation; you rest in the recovery room before going back to the hotel
  • Next day — a first check at the clinic; this visit is not optional
  • Before you fly — stitch removal and a follow-up check
  • After you fly home — three months of remote follow-up: photograph reviews and written replies from your surgeon

On cost: we publish a pricing policy, not a price list. International patients pay the same surgical fee as Korean patients, with no foreigner surcharge and no agency commission built in. You receive one itemised written quote after consultation, before you decide anything.

What I check first in consultation

Photographs help me more than a description. A straight side profile with the head level, and a front view with a neutral expression, usually show which of the three is driving your double chin. You can see my background on my surgeon profile.

Risks and how we reduce them

Liposuction under the chin is a surgical operation, and I talk through its limits before anyone books a flight. The points below are the ones I raise with every patient.

  • Uneven contour — the result looks smooth only when the fat layer left behind is planned, not just the amount removed
  • Loose skin after suction — the reason we assess elasticity first and discuss a lift when it is reduced
  • Swelling that hides the result — normal for the first weeks; the line is judged at around 3 to 6 months, not earlier
  • Medical risk — an uncontrolled cardiovascular or clotting disorder is a reason not to proceed

Wearing the compression garment as instructed and keeping every follow-up visit are the two things you control most. If something looks different after you fly home, send photographs — that is what the three months of remote follow-up are for.

FAQ

Questions patients ask

Can liposuction get rid of a double chin?

When the double chin is caused by fat under the chin and along the jaw, liposuction reduces the fat cells in that area and the chin-to-neck line becomes sharper. If loose skin or a short chin bone is part of the cause, liposuction alone will not correct it, and we plan a lift or chin surgery instead or alongside.

How long should I stay in Korea for double chin liposuction?

Plan at least 10 days for liposuction. If chin or cheekbone surgery is in the same plan, stay at least 14 days, because stitches for bone contouring come out 10–14 days after surgery.

When will I see the result?

In our liposuction data, swelling peaks at 7–14 days, the area looks natural at around 3 months and the final result is judged at around 6 months. The line under the chin often looks fuller in the first days because of swelling.

Will the fat come back?

Liposuction reduces the number of fat cells in the treated area, but it is not a weight-loss operation. Significant weight gain afterwards can still change the shape of the lower face, so we ask patients to be at a stable weight first.

Can I combine double chin liposuction with other facial surgery?

Yes. Our cases include chin and jawline liposuction combined with cheek liposuction, chin advancement or cheekbone reduction, and liposuction can be done during an SMAS facelift. Each added area changes the recovery and the number of days you need in Korea.

How much does double chin liposuction cost in Korea?

We do not publish a price list, because the plan decides the fee. International patients pay the same surgical fee as Korean patients, and you receive one itemised written quote after consultation.

This article explains general medical information. Whether surgery suits you, and which method, is decided only after a consultation with the surgeon.
