Breast Lift in Korea: Sagging, Volume and the Trip, From the Surgeon

A plastic surgeon in Seoul explains how a breast lift is planned for patients flying in: when sagging needs a lift and when it needs volume too, the ultrasound check, recovery, the trip and how the fee is set.

The short answer

A breast lift in Korea, as we plan it, starts by deciding whether sagging is the whole problem or whether volume has gone too, because that decides between a lift alone and a lift with augmentation. The breast is read on ultrasound first. Surgery takes 1–3 hours under general anesthesia, one night in the clinic is advised, and stitches come out 7–10 days after surgery. International patients pay the same surgical fee as Korean patients, set out in one written quote.

  • Sagging alone and sagging with volume loss need different plans: a lift, or a lift with augmentation.
  • The breast is read on ultrasound before the plan; an unexamined lump or nipple discharge means imaging comes first.
  • Surgery takes 1–3 hours under general anesthesia, with one night in the clinic advised.
  • Stitches come out 7–10 days after surgery, and most people return to daily life in 10–14 days.
  • International patients pay the same surgical fee as Korean patients, confirmed in an itemised written quote.

I am Im Young Min, Chief Director and board-certified plastic surgeon at VG Plastic Surgery in Seoul, and an adjunct professor of plastic surgery at Seoul St. Mary's Hospital. Breast surgery is one of the fields I operate in. People who ask about a breast lift in Korea usually send one photo and one sentence: they are not unhappy with their size, they are unhappy with where the breast sits.

That sentence matters, because it points to a different operation from augmentation. If your question is mainly about adding size, I have covered it in breast augmentation in Korea. This article is about sagging: how I judge it, when a lift is enough, and how the trip to Seoul is planned around it.

What a breast lift corrects, and what it does not

A lift is for the position and shape of the breast. After pregnancy, breastfeeding or weight change, the skin stretches, the breast descends and the nipple ends up pointing lower than it used to. A lift raises the breast and reshapes it so that it sits higher on the chest.

What a lift does not do on its own is add volume. If the upper chest has gone hollow as well, raising the breast will not fill that space. This is the point I spend most time on in consultation, because choosing the wrong plan here is how people end up disappointed.

Our breast team treats this as medicine before aesthetics. The breast is assessed on ultrasound first, and whether the plan becomes a lift, augmentation or a reduction, we favour the approach that preserves glandular tissue and blood supply.

Lift alone or lift with volume: how I decide

Most people asking about a korea breast lift fall into one of two groups. The table shows how I separate them.

Two common plans for sagging breasts
PlanUsually suitsWhat I look at first
Breast liftBreasts that have descended but still hold enough tissue to keep a shape once raisedHow far the breast and nipple sit below where they used to, and how much loose skin there is
Breast lift with augmentationSagging together with volume loss, often after pregnancy and breastfeedingHow much tissue is left to cover the chest, and how hollow the upper chest has become

The reverse also happens. If sagging is the main problem and someone asks only for an implant, adding volume alone can make the breast look heavier rather than lifted. That is why I look at position before I talk about size.

This is the same patient as the photo at the top of this article. Before surgery the breast had descended and emptied out above the nipple, so a lift alone would have left the upper chest flat. You can see this lift with augmentation case in full.

Who a breast lift suits, and when I advise waiting

These are the situations where breast surgery is often a reasonable answer.

  • Sagging together with volume loss after pregnancy and breastfeeding
  • Volume loss that affects how clothes sit or how balanced the two sides look
  • A clear difference in size or shape between the two sides

And these are the situations where I tell people to wait or to do something else first. Saying not yet is part of the consultation.

  • An unexamined lump or nipple discharge — breast imaging comes first
  • Breastfeeding now, or planning pregnancy within six months — pregnancy and breastfeeding change the breast again
  • Smoking you cannot stop around the operation
  • An uncontrolled cardiovascular or bleeding disorder

Surgery day and recovery

On the morning of surgery I draw the plan on you and go through it with you, with the interpreter present. Nothing starts until you agree to what is drawn. The operation takes 1–3 hours under general anesthesia.

Breast surgery at a glance (our breast surgery data)
ItemWhat to expect
Operation time1–3 hours
AnesthesiaGeneral anesthesia
Stay in the clinicOne night advised
ShoweringAfter 5–7 days
Stitches out7–10 days after surgery
Back to daily life10–14 days

The first week is the part people find hardest: the chest feels tight and swollen. By the time stitches come out you are usually moving comfortably, and the breast keeps settling for months after that. The photos in this article were all taken 3 months after surgery.

Planning a breast lift in Korea: stay, stitches and follow-up

For breast lift surgery in South Korea, the length of your stay is set by stitch removal, 7–10 days after surgery, and by a final check before you fly. We confirm the exact dates with you in consultation, against your flights and your leave.

  1. Arrival and the in-person consultation, with the ultrasound read before the plan is final
  2. Surgery day, then one night in the clinic as advised
  3. Recovery at a partner hotel within walking distance of the clinic
  4. Stitches out 7–10 days after surgery
  5. Final check before flying, and a schedule for remote follow-up

The day-by-day trip planner lays this out against your own dates. After you fly home, follow-up continues for three months: photograph reviews, written answers and a request for more photographs from set angles when the first ones are not enough.

An interpreter sits with you through consultation, the design on surgery morning and every follow-up visit. One coordinator stays with your case from the first message to three months after you leave. Airport transfers and partner hotels are on our page for international patients.

How the fee for a breast lift in Korea is set

I cannot give you a number before seeing you, and I would be wary of anyone who does. A lift alone and a lift with augmentation are different operations, and the time under anesthesia differs too.

What I can tell you is how the fee works. International patients pay the same surgical fee as Korean patients, with no foreigner surcharge. After consultation you receive one itemised written quote, before you decide anything. Our pricing policy lists what that quote covers, including three months of remote follow-up.

What I check first in consultation

I operate across eyes, nose, contouring, body and breast, so I am not trying to fit everyone into one operation. My training and memberships are on my profile page. The clinic also holds the Korean Society of Breast and Thyroid Surgeons' Excellent Breast and Thyroid Care Clinic certification, issued in November 2024.

The first two photos are one patient who had a lift without implants: she had enough tissue, and the problem was position. You can see that breast lift case in full. The third patient had lost volume as well, so the plan added it.

Risks, and how we reduce them

Every breast lift carries risk. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons lists bleeding or a collection of blood, infection, poor healing of incisions, asymmetry or irregular shape, changes in nipple or breast sensation, fat necrosis, fluid collection, blood clots, and in rare cases partial or total loss of the nipple and areola. Revision surgery is possible.

  • Imaging before the plan: the breast is read on ultrasound, and a lump or discharge is investigated before anything else
  • Tissue kept where it can be: we favour approaches that preserve glandular tissue and blood supply
  • Anesthesia: general anesthesia, with one night in the clinic advised
  • Follow-up after you leave: three months of remote review, and we tell you what to watch for at home

FAQ

Questions patients ask

Do I need implants with a breast lift?

Not always. If the breast has descended but still holds enough tissue, a lift alone can be enough. If the upper chest has gone hollow as well, a lift with augmentation is usually the plan. I decide after the examination and ultrasound.

How long should I stay in Korea for a breast lift?

Your stay is built around stitch removal, 7–10 days after surgery, plus a final check before you fly. We set the exact dates with you in consultation.

Do I stay in hospital after a breast lift in Korea?

One night in the clinic is advised after breast surgery. The operation takes 1–3 hours under general anesthesia, and you then recover at a partner hotel within walking distance.

When can I go back to normal activity?

Most people return to daily life in 10–14 days. You can shower after 5–7 days, and the breast keeps settling for months after surgery.

Should I wait until after having children?

If you are breastfeeding now or planning pregnancy within six months, I advise waiting. Pregnancy and breastfeeding change the breast again, so it is better to plan surgery after that.

How much is a breast lift in Korea for foreigners?

We do not publish a price list, because the figure depends on whether volume is added and the time under anesthesia. International patients pay the same surgical fee as Korean patients, with no foreigner surcharge, in one itemised written quote after consultation.
