The short answer

There is no single figure for gynecomastia surgery cost Korea searches can give you, because the fee depends on how much of the swelling is gland and how much is fat, whether one or both sides are treated, and the time under anesthesia. International patients at our clinic pay the same surgical fee as Korean patients, set out in one itemised written quote after consultation. The operation is done under general anesthesia, and stitches come out 7–10 days after surgery, which is what your stay in Seoul is built around.

  • The fee is set by the plan — the balance of gland and fat, one or both sides, and time in theatre — not by your passport.
  • International patients pay the same surgical fee as Korean patients, with no foreigner surcharge and one itemised written quote.
  • The glandular tissue is excised and the surrounding fat removed by liposuction; removing only the fat leaves the firm disc behind.
  • Breast surgery here takes 1–3 hours under general anesthesia, with one night in the clinic advised and stitches out 7–10 days after surgery.
  • The chest is assessed on ultrasound first, and the risks are discussed before you agree to anything.

Hello, I'm Im Young Min, Chief Director and a board-certified plastic surgeon at VG Plastic Surgery in Seoul, and breast surgery is one of the fields I operate in. Men who write to us about a swollen chest almost always ask the same thing first: what is the gynecomastia surgery cost Korea clinics charge, and is it worth flying for?

I understand why the price comes first. Most of these men have spent years hiding their chest under loose shirts, and they want to know whether the trip is realistic before they talk to anyone. So in this article I explain what actually decides the fee, what the operation involves, and how the days in Seoul are planned.

Gynecomastia is treated in our breast surgery centre, alongside augmentation, lifts and reductions. The breast surgery page, where our team sets out every operation in the centre with results by concern, is a good place to see how we approach the chest as a whole.

What decides the fee for gynecomastia surgery in Korea

A fee for an operation is set by the operation, the surgeon and the time in theatre. It is not set by your passport. International patients pay the same surgical fee as Korean patients: there is no separate international price sheet, no foreigner surcharge and no agency commission built in.

That is also why we do not publish a price list, and why any gynecomastia surgery cost Korea figure quoted before an examination should be read with care. A number for gynecomastia surgery is only true for one specific plan, and two men with what looks like the same chest can need a different amount of work. These are the things that move the plan, and therefore the fee.

What changes the plan for gynecomastia surgery, and why
FactorWhy it matters
Gland versus fatA firm disc of glandular tissue has to be excised; softer fat around it is removed by liposuction. Most chests need both, in different proportions
One side or bothSome men have a clear difference between the two sides, and the plan treats each side on its own terms
Time under anesthesiaBreast surgery here takes 1–3 hours under general anesthesia, with an anesthesiologist present throughout
Previous surgery elsewhereScar tissue from an earlier operation changes the operating time and sometimes the technique
Tests you have not hadBloodwork or imaging is added only where your own records are not recent enough

After consultation you receive one itemised written quote before you decide anything. It covers the surgeon's fee, anesthesia with the anesthesiologist, the operating theatre and recovery room, post-operative visits during your stay, dressings and discharge medication, interpretation, and three months of remote follow-up. Our pricing policy lists each item, and I have explained the wider picture in what plastic surgery in Korea costs and why.

Gland, fat, or both: why liposuction alone is often not enough

Most men who search gynecomastia surgery Korea options have read that liposuction will fix it. Sometimes the swelling is mostly fat. Often, though, there is a firm disc of glandular tissue behind the nipple, and that disc is what pushes the nipple forward in a T-shirt.

In our breast centre, the glandular tissue is excised and the surrounding fat removed by liposuction in the same operation. Taking out only the fat leaves the firm disc behind, and the chest still looks the same in a shirt. If your chest is mostly fat and the rest of your body carries fat too, the liposuction guide for Korea covers the body side of that question.

These are cases from our breast surgery team, each photographed 3 months after surgery. The first photo and the one at the top of the page are one patient: the side view shows how far the tissue stood out from the chest and how flat it lies now. The second patient had the cone shape that comes from gland behind the nipple, and his full set is on this gynecomastia case page.

Who it suits, and when I advise waiting

Gynecomastia surgery is a reasonable answer when the swelling has been there for a while, it is firm or one-sided, or it shapes how you dress and how you stand. A clear difference in size between the two sides is also a common reason men write to us.

And these are the situations where I tell you to wait, or to deal with something else first. Saying not yet is part of the consultation.

  • An unexamined lump or nipple discharge — breast imaging comes first, before any surgical plan
  • Smoking you cannot stop around the operation
  • An uncontrolled cardiovascular or bleeding disorder

Before any plan is made, the chest is assessed on ultrasound. It tells me how much of what I see is gland and how much is fat, which is the single biggest factor in the plan and in the fee.

Surgery day and recovery

On the morning of surgery I mark the plan on your chest and go through it with you, with the interpreter in the room. Nothing starts until you agree. These are the figures our breast surgery centre works to.

Breast surgery at our clinic (our own procedure data)
ItemWhat to expect
Operation time1–3 hours
AnesthesiaGeneral anesthesia
Stay in the clinicOne night advised
ShoweringAfter 5–7 days
Stitches out7–10 days after surgery
Recovery10–14 days

The first few days are the tightest. By the time stitches come out most men are moving comfortably, and the chest keeps settling over the following months. Your coordinator takes you back to the hotel with medication and written aftercare instructions in English.

Send a front and a side photo of your chest on WhatsApp, and I'll tell you whether your plan looks like gland, fat or both.

Planning gynecomastia surgery in Seoul: stay, stitches and follow-up

For gynecomastia surgery in Seoul your stay is built around stitch removal, 7–10 days after surgery, and a final check before you fly. We confirm the exact dates with you in consultation, against your flights and your leave.

  1. Arrival and the in-person consultation, with the ultrasound read before the plan is final
  2. Surgery day, then one night in the clinic as advised
  3. Recovery at a partner hotel within walking distance of the clinic
  4. Stitches out 7–10 days after surgery
  5. Final check before flying, and a schedule for remote follow-up

The day-by-day trip planner lays this out against your own dates. After you fly home, remote follow-up continues for three months, with photograph reviews and written answers from your surgeon. One coordinator stays with your case from the first message to the end of that period.

An interpreter is with you in consultation, on surgery morning and at every follow-up visit. Over 7,000 international patients from 53 countries have been treated at our clinic, and your medical certificate and operation record are issued in English for your doctor at home.

What I check first in consultation

I operate across eyes, nose, contouring, body and breast, so I am not trying to fit every chest into one operation. My training and memberships are on my profile page. The clinic also holds the Korean Society of Breast and Thyroid Surgeons' Excellent Breast and Thyroid Care Clinic certification, issued in November 2024.

These are three more patients from our breast surgery team at 3 months. The first started with the heaviest chest of the group, and the side view shows how much tissue sat over the lower chest. The last two had milder puffiness, which is the kind that a shirt shows more than a mirror. Risks, and how we reduce them

Every gynecomastia operation carries risk. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons lists bleeding, infection, fluid collection, poor wound healing, unfavourable scarring, asymmetry, contour irregularities, and changes in nipple or breast sensation that may be temporary or lasting, as well as anesthesia risks and the possibility of revision surgery.

  • Imaging before the plan: the chest is read on ultrasound, and a lump or discharge is investigated before anything else
  • Gland and fat both addressed: leaving the firm disc behind is a common reason a chest still looks the same afterwards
  • Anesthesia: an anesthesiologist attends your whole operation, and one night in the clinic is advised
  • Follow-up after you leave: three months of remote review, and we tell you what to watch for at home

If breast size is the issue for a woman in your family rather than for you, the plan is a different one, and I have written it up in breast reduction in Korea. If you are also thinking about your nose or jaw, I have written a guide to Korean men plastic surgery.

For every operation our breast centre performs, with results by concern, start with how we plan breast and chest surgery. It is the clearest way to see where gynecomastia sits among the others.

Send photos of your chest from the front and both sides on WhatsApp, and I'll tell you what your plan would involve and how your dates in Seoul would look.

FAQ

Questions patients ask

How much does gynecomastia surgery cost in South Korea?

We do not publish a price list, because the fee depends on how much gland and fat there is, whether one or both sides are treated, and the time under anesthesia. International patients pay the same surgical fee as Korean patients, with no foreigner surcharge. You receive an itemised written quote after consultation, before you decide.

Is liposuction alone enough for gynecomastia?

Sometimes the swelling is mostly fat, but often there is a firm disc of glandular tissue behind the nipple. In our breast centre the gland is excised and the surrounding fat removed by liposuction, because taking out only the fat leaves the disc behind.

How long should I stay in Korea for gynecomastia surgery?

Your stay is built around stitch removal, 7–10 days after surgery, plus a final check before you fly. We set the exact dates with you in consultation, and the trip planner shows a typical schedule day by day.

Do I need to stay in hospital after gynecomastia surgery?

One night in the clinic is advised after breast surgery here. The operation takes 1–3 hours under general anesthesia, and afterwards you recover at a partner hotel near the clinic.

Can only one side be treated?

Yes. When the two sides differ clearly, the plan treats each side on its own terms, and sometimes only one side needs surgery. The examination and ultrasound decide.

Can I get a quote before flying to Seoul?

Yes. Send front, 45-degree and side photos in daylight, and the surgeon who would operate reviews them and we reply by messenger or email with what they would plan. The written quote follows, and the in-person examination on arrival confirms it before surgery.
