The short answer
Breast reduction in Korea, as we plan it, starts with an ultrasound of the breast and a look at what the weight is doing to your shoulders and back. Breast surgery here takes 1–3 hours under general anesthesia, one night in the clinic is advised, and stitches come out 7–10 days after surgery, so your dates in Seoul are built around that. International patients pay the same surgical fee as Korean patients, set out in one written quote.
- Reduction is for breasts whose size causes shoulder or back pain, and it is planned to keep glandular tissue and blood supply where it can.
- The breast is read on ultrasound first; an unexamined lump or nipple discharge means imaging comes before any surgery.
- Breast surgery takes 1–3 hours under general anesthesia, with one night in the clinic advised and stitches out at 7–10 days.
- Reduction leaves scars, and it can change nipple sensation and the ability to breastfeed; these are discussed before you agree to a plan.
- International patients pay the same surgical fee as Korean patients, confirmed in an itemised written quote.

People who look into breast reduction in Korea usually write to us after years of bra straps cutting into their shoulders, and their first question is rarely about size. It is: will this actually take the weight off?
This article goes through that question the way I go through it in consultation. If you are weighing the opposite problem, too little volume, I have written that separately in breast augmentation in Korea. Chest reduction for men is a different plan, covered in gynecomastia surgery cost in Korea.
Why people choose breast reduction in Korea
Most of the people I see for a Korea breast reduction are not asking for a dramatic change in look. They want to stand straight without an ache across the upper back, run without holding their chest, and buy a shirt that fits both their shoulders and their bust.
That is why our breast team treats this as medicine before aesthetics. A reduction removes tissue that is pulling on the shoulders, neck and back, and it also reshapes and lifts what remains. The appearance changes, but relief from the load is usually why people book.
Before any plan is made, the breast is assessed on ultrasound. Whatever the plan turns out to be, we favour the approach that preserves glandular tissue and blood supply in the tissue that stays.
Who it suits, and when I advise waiting
These are the situations where reduction, alone or with other breast work, is a reasonable answer.
- Shoulder or back pain from breast size, which is the most common reason I hear
- A clear difference in size or shape between the two sides, where one breast is reduced to match the other
- Sagging together with excess volume, often after pregnancy and breastfeeding, where reduction and a lift are planned as one operation
And these are the situations where I tell people to wait, or to do something else first. Saying not yet is part of the consultation.
- An unexamined lump or nipple discharge — breast imaging comes first
- Breastfeeding now, or planning pregnancy within six months
- Smoking you cannot stop around the operation
- An uncontrolled cardiovascular or bleeding disorder

These photos and the one at the top of this page are one patient. The side view is the one I ask people to study, because it shows how far the weight hung below the fold and where it sits now. The full set is on this breast reduction case page.
Reduction, reduction with a lift, or matching two sides
A breast reduction South Korea search often turns up one operation, but in practice I plan one of three variations. The photo you send tells me where to start; the ultrasound and the examination decide.
| Plan | What it is for | What I look at first |
|---|---|---|
| Reduction | Breasts large enough to cause shoulder or back pain | Breast volume, the load on the shoulders, and blood supply to the tissue that stays |
| Reduction with a lift | Excess volume together with sagging, often after pregnancy | How far the nipple and breast have descended, and how much skin there is |
| Reduction on one side | A clear difference in size between the two breasts | Which side to bring towards the other, and whether the smaller side needs volume instead |
When sagging is part of the picture, removing volume alone can leave a smaller breast that still sits low. That is why I look at the position of the nipple and the fold before I talk about how much tissue comes out.
Surgery day and recovery
On the morning of surgery I draw the plan on you and go through it with you, with the interpreter present. Nothing starts until you agree to what is drawn. Breast surgery here takes 1–3 hours under general anesthesia, and an anesthesiologist attends the whole operation.
| Item | What to expect |
|---|---|
| Operation time | 1–3 hours |
| Anesthesia | General anesthesia |
| Stay in the clinic | One night advised |
| Showering | After 5–7 days |
| Stitches out | 7–10 days after surgery |
| Recovery | 10–14 days |
The first days are the tightest. By the time stitches come out most people are moving comfortably, and the scars and shape keep settling for months after that. Your coordinator takes you back to the hotel with medication and written aftercare instructions in your language.
Send a front and a side photo on WhatsApp, and I'll tell you whether your breasts need a reduction alone or a reduction with a lift.
Planning a breast reduction in Korea: stay, stitches and follow-up
For a breast reduction in Korea your stay is set by stitch removal, 7–10 days after surgery, and a final check before you fly. We confirm the exact dates with you in consultation, against your flights and your leave.
- Arrival and the in-person consultation, with the ultrasound read before the plan is final
- Surgery day, then one night in the clinic as advised
- Recovery at a partner hotel, with a short walk to the clinic for check-ups
- Stitches out 7–10 days after surgery
- Final check before flying, and a schedule for remote follow-up
The day-by-day trip planner lays this out against your own dates. After you fly home, remote follow-up continues for three months, and one coordinator stays with your case from the first message to the end of that period.
An interpreter sits with you in consultation, on surgery morning and at every follow-up visit. Airport transfers, partner hotels and the rest are on our page for international patients. Over 7,000 international patients from 53 countries have been treated here.
How the fee for a breast reduction Korea plan is set
I cannot give you a breast reduction Korea price before I have seen you, and I would be wary of anyone who does. Two people asking for a reduction can need a different plan, a lift as well, or a different time under anesthesia.
What I can tell you is how the fee works. International patients pay the same surgical fee as Korean patients: no foreigner surcharge and no separate price sheet. After consultation you receive one itemised written quote before you decide anything. Our pricing policy lists what that quote covers, including anesthesia, interpretation and three months of remote follow-up.
What I check first in consultation
I operate across eyes, nose, contouring, body and breast, so I am not trying to fit everyone into one operation. My training and memberships are on my profile page. The clinic also holds the Korean Society of Breast and Thyroid Surgeons' Excellent Breast and Thyroid Care Clinic certification, issued in November 2024.

The first case combined a reduction, a lift and areola reduction in one operation. The second started with two very different sides, and the plan treated each side on its own terms, which is the reduction-on-one-side row in the table above. More are in the breast before-and-after gallery, filtered by procedure.
Risks, and how we reduce them
Every breast reduction carries risk. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons lists bleeding, infection, poor wound healing, unfavourable scarring, asymmetry, changes in nipple or breast sensation that may be temporary or lasting, and partial or total loss of the nipple and areola. It also notes that reduction may limit breastfeeding, although most women can still breastfeed.
- Imaging before the plan: the breast is read on ultrasound, and a lump or discharge is investigated before anything else
- Blood supply kept in mind: we favour approaches that preserve glandular tissue and blood supply to the tissue that stays
- Anesthesia: an anesthesiologist attends your whole operation, and one night in the clinic is advised
- Follow-up after you leave: three months of remote review, and we tell you what to watch for at home
Scars are part of a reduction, and I show you where they will run on the drawing before surgery. If you plan to breastfeed in the future, tell me at the first message, because it changes the conversation.

Send photos from the front and both sides on WhatsApp, and I'll tell you which reduction plan I would make and how your dates in Seoul would look.

FAQ
Questions patients ask
How much does breast reduction in Korea cost?
We do not publish a price list, because the figure depends on the plan, whether a lift is added and the time under anesthesia. International patients pay the same surgical fee as Korean patients, with no foreigner surcharge. You receive an itemised written quote after consultation, before you decide.
How long should I stay in Korea for a breast reduction?
Your stay is built around stitch removal, 7–10 days after surgery, plus a final check before you fly. We set the exact dates with you in consultation, and the trip planner shows a typical schedule day by day.
Will I be able to breastfeed after a reduction?
Reduction may limit breastfeeding, although ASPS notes that most women can still breastfeed. If you are breastfeeding now or planning pregnancy within six months, I advise waiting until after that.
Can one breast be reduced to match the other?
Yes. When the two sides differ clearly in size, the plan can reduce one side towards the other, and sometimes the smaller side needs volume instead. The examination and ultrasound decide which.
Do I need to stay in hospital after breast reduction?
One night in the clinic is advised after breast surgery. The operation takes 1–3 hours under general anesthesia, and afterwards you recover at a partner hotel close to the clinic.
Is a Korea breast reduction trip possible without speaking Korean?
Yes. An interpreter is with you at consultation, on surgery morning and at every follow-up visit, and one coordinator handles your case from the first message to three months after you fly home.
