Canthoplasty Cost Korea: What Sets the Figure for Your Eyes? Reviews, Recovery and Methods

The cost of canthoplasty in Korea follows which eye corners are opened, what it's combined with, and how many days you stay in Seoul. For many tired-looking eyes, the upper lid is the real cause.

The short answer

Trying to pin down canthoplasty cost Korea before you book a flight, and worried the figure will grow once you're sitting in a consultation room in Seoul? The fee mostly follows which eye corners are opened, whether the work is paired with double eyelid or ptosis surgery, and how many days you need in Seoul before the stitches are out and you can fly home.

  • The figure follows which corners are opened and how many.
  • Combining corner work with double eyelid or ptosis surgery changes both the cost and your days in Seoul.
  • Eyes that look tired after 40 often need upper lid work instead of a corner operation.
  • Foreigners pay the same surgical fee as Korean patients, and the estimate comes in writing.
  • Lowering a lower lid that is already loose carries more risk.

By the end, you'll know what decides the cost, what review threads get right and wrong about outer and lower corner work, how recovery fits around a flight, and which methods suit which eyes. That should help you judge whether corner surgery is worth paying for at all, given your eyes and your budget.

Hello, I'm Dr. Im Young Min, Chief Director and board-certified plastic surgeon at VG Plastic Surgery in Gangnam, Seoul. Eye surgery is one of the five centres I cover here.

Three things about this clinic matter if your question is about cost. Foreigners pay the same surgical fee as Korean patients, and the estimate is given in writing. Three board-certified anesthesiologists work here full time, and one is dedicated to every operation, so the surgeon does nothing but operate. And before deciding whether to cut at all, we check lid thickness, fat and how strongly the lid lifts.

I'm writing this because the expensive mistake with eye corners is rarely the fee itself. It's paying for a corner that was never the reason your eyes look small or tired.

For many people, the cause sits in the upper lid. In that case, corner surgery adds cost without the change they wanted. When the corners really are the issue, one corner involves less surgery than two. Combining corner work with eyelid surgery in one session changes both the figure and your days in Seoul.

If you want to know which group your eyes fall into, send one straight-on photo on WhatsApp. Take it in daylight with your eyes open and relaxed, and ask one question: “Is it my corners or my lids?” Asking with your own photo keeps the conversation about your eyes, not about a menu.

Which canthoplasty methods change which corner?

Online, “canthoplasty” is used loosely for three different operations. Each one is priced and heals on its own terms.

Inner corner (medial epicanthoplasty). Many East Asian eyelids have a fold of skin over the inner corner, called the epicanthal fold, as anatomy reviews in Seminars in Plastic Surgery describe. Opening it shows more of the inner corner and shortens the visible gap between the eyes. It's the most common corner operation. It's also the one where overdoing it is hardest to undo, because skin that has been removed can't simply be put back.

Outer corner (lateral canthoplasty). This lengthens the eye outward. How far it can go is limited by the bone of the eye socket and by how much of the pink inner lining sits hidden under the skin at the outer corner. In many eyes that hidden amount is small, so the gain is modest, and some of it can be lost as the tissue heals.

Lower outer lid (lower canthoplasty, sometimes called lower lid lowering). This draws the outer part of the lower lid down so the eye looks taller and softer. A small change here looks like a lot. Too much leaves white showing beneath the iris, or a lid that looks pulled.

The article on inner, outer and lower corner surgery and how far each can open goes deeper into design. Here I'll stay with what each choice does to your cost and your trip.

Canthoplasty cost Korea: what moves the figure

A search for “canthoplasty cost Korea” turns up figures with no operation attached. No two quotes for corner surgery cover the same work, so a number from a chat thread tells you very little. These are the factors that change it for you.

Combining procedures is the factor that changes most. People often fit eyes and nose into one trip. If you're weighing that, the nose has its own questions: when a man's rhinoplasty is worth waiting on, how follow-up works once you're home after rhinoplasty, and whether a larger nose will still breathe well after it's reduced. Two areas in one trip usually means more days in Seoul, so price the stay along with the surgery.

Foreigners pay the same surgical fee as Korean patients, and the estimate comes in writing. To get the figure for your own eyes, ask on WhatsApp what it would cost for your case and attach a photo. If you're thinking of adding eyelid surgery, say so in the same message.

Is corner surgery worth paying for if your eyes look tired?

If you're in your 40s or 50s, I'd ask this question first, because at that age the answer changes most often.

Say you're 48. Your upper lids have started to fold over toward the outer corners, your eyes look smaller in photos than they did ten years ago, and you've read that lateral canthoplasty “makes eyes bigger.” The corner may not be what changed. With age, upper lid skin loosens and the muscle that lifts the lid can weaken, and both hide more of the eye. If that's the cause, upper eyelid surgery or ptosis correction changes what you see in the mirror. An outer corner operation would add cost and a second scar without fixing the heaviness.

The lower lid ages too. It gets looser, and a loose lower lid is a poor candidate for lowering because it may not hold the new position and can sag away from the eye. For someone in their 20s with a firm lid and a short, upturned outer corner, the reasoning runs the other way, and corner surgery may be what makes sense.

To check which of these sounds like you, send two photos on WhatsApp: one looking straight ahead with your brows relaxed, and one looking up. Mention any eyelid surgery you've had before, because that alone changes which operations are possible.

What do reviews and Reddit threads say about lower canthoplasty?

Search “lower canthoplasty Korea reddit” and you'll see the same few claims again and again. Some hold up medically and some don't.

“The outer corner heals back.” This is partly true. An outer corner extension can lose part of its gain as the tissue heals. How much depends largely on how much hidden lining there was to begin with. That means you should expect a modest change. It doesn't mean the surgery failed.

“Lower canthoplasty makes your eyes look much bigger.” The change is real, but it's measured in millimetres, and the line between “softer” and “pulled down” is thin. Threads about white showing under the iris or a dry, irritated eye are describing the known downside of lowering the lid too far, or of lowering a lid that was too loose to hold.

“Corner scars disappear.” Usually they fade to a fine line. Inner corner scars in particular can stay visible for months or form a small web of skin, especially if your skin tends to scar thickly.

“It's a small add-on.” In operating time it can be. In terms of risk it isn't, because a corner that has been opened too far is harder to revise than a double eyelid fold.

How long is canthoplasty recovery time before you can fly home?

Recovery is short compared with nose or contouring surgery, but when the stitches come out decides the length of your trip. As general guidance, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons describes swelling, bruising and some irritation or dryness of the eyes in the first days after eyelid surgery. Corner stitches are commonly removed around five to seven days after the operation, and for most people visible swelling settles over the following week or two. The pink line at the corners takes longer to fade, often several months.

Plan for a few quiet days with cold compresses and your head raised, then stitch removal before you fly. When you book, ask how many days to plan for your combination, and keep a spare day in your schedule. Having the stitches removed in Seoul means you don't have to find someone at home to do it.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's medical tourism guidance suggests arranging follow-up care at home before you travel and carrying copies of your medical records. For corner surgery, that means having a family doctor or eye doctor at home who knows about the operation, and keeping your operation notes in your bag.

Risks, and who should wait

Risks and side effects to know

Common and temporary effects include swelling and bruising around the eyes, watery or dry eyes, a tight feeling at the corners, and red scar lines that fade over months. Less common are differences between the two sides, a scar that thickens or webs at the inner corner, and loss of some of the outer corner gain. With lower canthoplasty, the main risk is a lid that sits too low, shows white beneath the iris, or turns slightly away from the eye. That can cause dryness and may need revision. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons' eyelid surgery safety page also lists dry eyes, difficulty closing the eyes and, rarely, effects on vision among the risks of eyelid surgery.

As a general rule, you should wait or skip it if you have an active eye infection or inflammation, severe dry eye, an eyelid surgery that hasn't fully settled, or a pregnancy. The same applies to lower canthoplasty if your lower lid is already lax. If you take blood thinners or supplements that affect bleeding, say so before anything is planned.

If something changes after you fly home, see a doctor locally the same day and show them your operation notes. Warning signs include one side swelling more than the other, pain that gets worse, discharge, or any change in your vision. Healing differs from person to person, and whether corner surgery suits you is decided at the in-person exam.

Before you ask for a figure

On VG Plastic Surgery's English site, you can see the eye surgery centre and each surgeon's training, published under their own name. It's worth reading before you message anyone about canthoplasty cost Korea, or about any other operation.

When you're ready, send a WhatsApp message with the month you can travel, the corners or lids you're thinking about, and the one question you most want answered. You can ask before booking anything. When you come to Seoul, the surgeon examines your eyes and recommends what fits them, which might be one corner, the upper lid instead, or no surgery at all.

FAQ

Questions patients ask

Is canthoplasty cost Korea the same for foreigners as for Korean patients?

Yes. At VG Plastic Surgery, foreigners pay the same surgical fee as Korean patients, and the estimate is given in writing. What changes the figure is the operation itself: which corners are opened, what is combined with it, and whether it's a revision.

Can I combine canthoplasty with double eyelid surgery in one trip?

Often, yes. Corner work is commonly done in the same session as double eyelid surgery or ptosis correction, so you have one anaesthetic and one recovery. The combination adds operating time and can change how many days you should plan in Seoul.

Will a canthoplasty scar be visible?

Corner scars usually fade to a fine line over several months. Inner corner scars can stay visible longer or form a small web of skin, especially if your skin tends to scar thickly. Red lines in the first weeks are expected.

Can lower canthoplasty be reversed if I don't like it?

Not easily. A lid that sits too low can sometimes be raised again in a revision, but that is a harder operation than the first one, and the scar tissue from the first surgery makes it less predictable. That's why a small change is the safer starting point.

What anaesthesia is used for eye corner surgery?

The type of anaesthesia follows what's being done. A single corner is a different operation from corners plus eyelid surgery. At VG Plastic Surgery, three board-certified anesthesiologists work full time, and one is dedicated to every operation.
