Will “Double Chin Removal Korea” Work for You? Mostly When the Fullness Is Fat
Liposuction under the chin helps when the fullness is fat. If the skin is loose or the chin sits back, a lift or facial contouring may fit better. A Seoul plastic surgeon explains how to tell which it is.

The short answer
What most people mean by “double chin removal Korea” is liposuction under the chin: fat suctioned out through a small opening, which helps when the fullness you see really is fat. When the cause is loose skin, a chin that sits back or the shape of the jaw, removing fat alone tends to disappoint. And if you're past forty, the question you're probably turning over is the one people rarely type: once the fat is out, will my neck hang loose?
- Liposuction under the chin helps when the fullness is fat in the layer just under the skin.
- If the skin is already loose, removing fat can leave the neck emptier but not tighter.
- A chin that sits back or a wide jaw is a contouring question, not a fat question.
- A dedicated anesthesiologist monitors every operation here, from the first injection until you wake.
- Start with two daylight photos of your profile and one clear question, sent on WhatsApp.
I'm Im Young Min, chief director here and a board-certified plastic surgeon trained at Seoul St. Mary's Hospital. I operate across eyes, nose, facial contouring, body, breast and anti-aging, so if your neck would be better served by a lift or by work on the chin than by liposuction, I have no reason to push you toward one operation. I recommend only the surgery you actually need and leave out the rest.

If you'd like to start from your own neckline rather than a description of it, take two photos in daylight: one from the side with your head level, one with your chin tipped slightly down. Send them on WhatsApp with your age and the one question you'd ask first, for example whether liposuction alone would be enough at your age.

What is actually causing the fullness under your chin?
Usually one of three things, and often two at once: fat, skin that has lost its recoil, or a chin and jaw that don't project far enough to keep the neckline taut. Each points to a different operation, which is why the cause matters more than the amount.
Fat under the chin sits in two layers. The layer just beneath the skin is what liposuction reaches. Below the platysma, the thin sheet of muscle running down the front of the neck, there is deeper fat that a cannula passed from outside doesn't treat well, and in some necks that layer, or prominent salivary glands, make up much of the fullness.
You can get a rough idea at home. Look straight ahead and pinch the skin under your chin. A soft, thick roll between your fingers suggests fat is a large part of it. A thin fold that creases into lines when you look down suggests the skin itself is the bigger factor, and if your profile shows the chin sitting behind your lower lip, part of what you're calling a double chin is the skeleton.
In profile, the angle where the chin meets the neck tells me more than the amount of fat does. A neck with some fat and a well-projected chin often looks sharper than one with less fat and a chin that sits back.
How submental liposuction works
Submental liposuction is the medical name for liposuction under the chin. A thin tube called a cannula goes in through a small opening, usually under the chin and sometimes behind the earlobes, and the surgeon suctions fat from the layer just under the skin.
Most pages about “double chin removal Korea” stop at that point. The step after it is the one that decides the result: the skin has to shrink onto the new contour by itself. No instrument controls that. It comes down to how much elasticity your skin still has, which is why the American Society of Plastic Surgeons describes good liposuction candidates as people with firm, elastic skin and notes that liposuction doesn't treat loose skin.
I've written separately about double chin liposuction in Korea, who it suits and how the stay works, so here I'll stay with the decision that comes before it.
Will my neck sag once the fat is gone?
Not usually, if your skin still recoils well and the amount removed is moderate. It can, if the skin was already loose before surgery, because liposuction takes away volume and leaves the skin to contract on its own. When that contraction falls short, the neck looks emptier but not tighter.
Skin tends to lose elasticity with age, years of sun and large swings in weight, but the birth year on your passport doesn't settle it. Some people in their fifties have neck skin that still snaps back; some people in their thirties, after losing a lot of weight, don't.
When looseness is the main problem, the conversation moves to a lift, which repositions the deeper tissue and removes extra skin rather than only taking fat. The facelifts on our menu are SMAS, mini and Crystal lifts, and before deciding the direction of any pull, we look at which layer has actually descended.
Sometimes it is neither, because what bothers you won't change enough to justify the trip.
For this particular question, a photo from the front shows very little. Take one in profile with your lips closed and your teeth together, and on WhatsApp ask whether fat or skin looks like the bigger part of your neck.

When the chin or the jaw is the real reason
A chin that sits back shortens the line from chin to throat, so even a slim neck can fold beneath it. Taking fat out there adds no projection.
Width is a separate matter. A lower face that looks heavy from the front can be bone, the chewing muscle or fat along the jawline, and only the last responds to liposuction. If bone is the reason, what jaw shaving removes and why your age changes the plan is the piece to read next. For contouring, nerves and bone thickness are mapped on CT, and because bone does not grow back, the aim is to leave everything that does not need to go.
“Double jaw surgery” sometimes shows up next to these searches. That is bite-correcting jaw surgery, a different field, and not something we do here.
Risks and side effects to know
Swelling, bruising and a tight, numb feeling under the chin are expected after liposuction there, and they settle gradually rather than overnight. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons lists contour irregularities, numbness, fluid collection and infection among the risks of liposuction in general.
The neck adds one specific concern. A small nerve branch that moves the corner of the lower lip runs close to the edge of the jaw, and if it is bruised or stretched, your smile can look uneven for a while. This usually recovers, but it is a reason work near the jawline is done conservatively.
Taking out too much is a risk of its own. An over-thinned neck can look hollow, show the muscle bands or ripple when you turn your head. I would rather leave a thin layer of fat than chase a sharper angle and lose the even surface.
Travel adds another layer. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advises people traveling for surgery to arrange follow-up care at home before they leave, to carry copies of their medical records, and to keep in mind that flying soon after surgery raises the risk of blood clots. The number of days to stay in Seoul is set by what is actually done, the in-person exam decides whether you're a candidate at all, and how your skin settles afterward differs from person to person.
Who is in the room during your operation?
Your surgeon, and an anesthesiologist whose whole job is you. Three board-certified anesthesiologists work here full time, and one of them watches your blood pressure, pulse and breathing from the first injection until you are awake again, so the surgeon can concentrate on nothing but the operation.
Every surgeon here operates under their own name, and which center each one belongs to and where they trained is published, so you can check before you fly. Our English homepage sets out the surgical centers and leads to each surgeon's page.
Searching “double” and meant your eyelids?
The searches around this topic mix chins and eyelids. If the double you had in mind is the crease above the eye, the questions are different ones: lid thickness, fat and the strength that lifts the lid decide whether an incision is needed at all. Double eyelid surgery in Korea, incisional or not covers a first operation, and revision double eyelid surgery and the problems it corrects covers a second one.
Before you write, gather the medications and supplements you take, especially anything that thins the blood, and note any surgery you've had on your face or neck. Send that list on WhatsApp with your travel window and the question about your neck that nothing you've read so far has answered.

FAQ
Questions patients ask
Is “double chin removal Korea” always liposuction?
No. Liposuction is the usual choice when the fullness is fat in the layer under the skin. Loose skin points toward a lift, and a chin that sits back points toward facial contouring. Some necks need a combination of two.
Can a double chin come back after liposuction?
The fat cells that are removed don't grow back, but the ones left behind can still enlarge if you gain weight, and the neck is where many people notice gain first.
Will there be a visible scar under my chin?
The opening is small and usually placed under the chin or behind the earlobe, where it is less noticeable. Like any incision it leaves a mark, which fades over months for most people.
Am I too old for liposuction under the chin?
Age alone doesn't rule it out. What matters is whether your skin can still contract onto a slimmer contour. If it can't, a lift is usually the more fitting conversation, sometimes with a little fat removed at the same time.
What should I bring to a consultation in Seoul?
A list of your medications and supplements, details of any past surgery on your face or neck, and a clear sense of what bothers you most when you look in the mirror, whether that is the profile, the front view or how the neck looks when you look down.
