The short answer

How much does V line surgery cost in Korea, and will the figure you get before you fly still hold once a surgeon has seen your jaw on CT? The cost is built from which bones are reshaped, how much is taken off, general anesthesia and hospital time, and the days you spend in Seoul. That means a real number exists only for your own face.

  • There is no single V line price; the quote follows which bones are reshaped and how much.
  • Anesthesia, hospital time and days in Seoul are part of the cost, and foreigners pay the same surgical fee as Korean patients.
  • Bone that is removed does not grow back, while filler and muscle injections wear off.
  • Long swelling and lower-lip numbness in review threads are real; a finished look after one week is not.
  • Send a front and side photo on WhatsApp and ask what your own plan would cost.

By the end you'll know what decides the quote, how long a V line change lasts, what reviews get right and wrong, and which methods suit which kind of jaw. That should help you tell whether a full V line, a smaller chin-focused plan or no bone surgery at all fits your face and your budget.

Hello, I'm Dr. Im Young Min, Chief Director and a board-certified plastic surgeon at VG Plastic Surgery in Gangnam, Seoul. Facial contouring is one of the centers I cover, alongside eyes, nose, body and breast.

Two things here bear directly on jaw surgery. Three board-certified anesthesiologists work at the clinic full time, so one of them watches your blood pressure, pulse and breathing from the first injection until you wake up, and the surgeon does nothing but operate. And for contouring, nerves and bone thickness are mapped on CT, because bone does not grow back.

I wrote this because many people compare V line quotes before anyone has decided how much bone should come off, and that order makes the decision backwards.

There is no single V line price in Korea. Your figure follows the bone plan your exam supports, plus anesthesia, hospital time and your stay, and the place to start is a picture of your face.

If you'd like to start there, send one front photo and one side photo on WhatsApp, taken in daylight with your hair pulled back, and add the single question that worries you most: the jaw angle, the chin or the cost.

What V line surgery changes in the bone

A V line is an outline, and two pieces of bone make it: the jaw angle and lower border at the sides, and the chin at the front. Most V line plans reduce the angle and part of the jaw body, then reshape the chin, which can be narrowed, shortened, moved forward or set back. When only the chin and the front of the jaw are worked on, people usually call it a mini V line.

Width in the lower face is not always bone. The masseter muscle, fat under the jaw and thick skin all add to it, and surgery on bone only changes the bone. So the first question in any V line consultation is which layer is making your face look wide. If the answer is muscle, a jaw reduction can leave you with much the same width and an incision line inside your mouth.

There is also a hard limit inside the jaw. The nerve that gives feeling to your lower lip and chin runs through a canal in the lower jawbone, and how close it sits to the bone you want trimmed limits how much can come off. Papers in Korean aesthetic plastic surgery journals have described ways to stay clear of this nerve during jaw angle work, which tells you how seriously surgeons treat it.

Because removed bone does not grow back, I would rather leave a little more than the photo-ideal than take bone that was protecting that nerve.

If you're still comparing clinics from forum lists, what a clinic list can't show about your bone covers the checks a list leaves out.

How much does V line surgery cost in Korea for your face?

Anyone typing “how much does V line surgery cost in Korea” is really asking which of the factors below applies to them. The quote moves with the plan, so here is what changes the plan.

What moves the quoteWhy it matters
Which bones are reshapedChin only, jaw angle and body, or both; each added area adds operating time
What kind of changeNarrowing, shortening or advancing the chin are different operations; revising earlier surgery adds work
Anesthesia and hospital timeV line surgery is done under general anesthesia, with monitoring until you are fully awake
Other areas in the same sessionAdding cheekbone reduction or another operation changes time in surgery and recovery
Days in SeoulHotel nights, checkups before you fly, and any spare day you keep in reserve

Two things don't move it. Being a foreigner is one: foreigners pay the same surgical fee as Korean patients here. The format is the other: the estimate is given in writing, so you can read it line by line against the plan you discussed.

The same logic, that the plan sets the price, runs through what sets a plastic surgery quote in Korea in general. If you're thinking of adding another area to the same trip, the drivers behind a nose job cost in Korea and double eyelid surgery cost in Korea work differently from bone surgery, and it helps to know both before you plan your days.

To get the figure for your own case, ask on WhatsApp what V line surgery would cost for your jaw and chin, and say whether you've had any surgery or filler in that area before.

Mini V line, full V line or no bone surgery at all?

The searches around this topic mix three different things, so it helps to separate them.

Full V line surgery reshapes the jaw angle, the lower border of the jaw and the chin together. It suits a lower face that is wide at the angles and also long or broad at the chin.

Mini V line surgery works on the chin and the front part of the jaw. It suits a face whose angles sit well but whose chin is wide, long or set back.

Injections belong to a different category. What people search as “lipo lab v line” is a fat-dissolving injection; hyaluronic acid filler adds volume to the chin; muscle-relaxing injections can slim a bulky masseter. None of these change bone, all of them wear off, and they sit outside the surgery this article is about.

Say you're 30, your jaw angles flare when you clench, your chin is short, and the surgeon you saw at home suggested chin filler and injections for the muscle. If the CT shows the bone at the angles is modest and most of the flare is muscle, I would agree with that surgeon about the angles and look only at the chin, which may mean a mini V line or no surgery yet.

If the bone itself flares and the chin is short and broad, injections won't move bone, and a full V line becomes the plan worth discussing. The quote changes with that answer, which is why I don't want you budgeting for the bigger operation before anyone has looked.

How long does a V line result last?

Bone that has been removed does not grow back, so the jaw outline that surgery creates stays. What keeps changing is everything on top of it. Skin, fat and the soft tissue under the jaw loosen with age for everyone, and a face that had a lot of bone support taken away can show that loosening earlier. That is one reason I'm more conservative with thin skin and with older faces.

The shape also takes time to appear. Swelling after jaw surgery usually settles gradually over weeks, and the final line often isn't visible for several months, so a photo at one month is not the end result.

Injections work the other way round. Hyaluronic acid filler in the chin is absorbed over months, and muscle-relaxing injections for the masseter wear off and need repeating. That's often why someone who started with injections later asks about bone surgery: it is a one-time change to structure, with a bigger operation attached.

What V line surgery reviews get right, and what they leave out

Review threads on V line surgery tend to repeat the same few claims. Some hold up medically and some don't.

“The swelling lasts much longer than you expect.” Mostly true. Lower-face swelling after bone surgery is slow to settle, and the first weeks are rarely a preview of the final shape.

“Your lower lip goes numb.” True for many people at first. The nerve to the lip and chin sits close to the bone being shaped, and stretching it during surgery commonly causes temporary numbness. A review of 588 jaw contouring cases published in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Global Open listed nerve-related sensory change among the complications seen, and in a minority of people it can last.

“V line surgery makes your face sag.” Partly true. Sagging comes from soft tissue losing support, and it is more likely when a lot of bone is removed from an older face or from thin skin. It is a planning question more than an inevitability.

“You'll look finished in a week.” Not true. A week after surgery is still early swelling, and judging the result then usually leads to worry that settles on its own.

Risks and side effects to know

Common and usually temporary: swelling and bruising in the lower face and neck, tightness when opening your mouth, difficulty chewing for a while, and numbness of the lower lip and chin. Incisions for V line surgery are usually made inside the mouth, so rinsing and mouth hygiene matter while they heal.

Less common but serious: bleeding that collects under the tissue, which in rare cases needs a return to the operating room (a case report in the Annals of Medicine and Surgery described exactly this after jaw surgery done as office-based day surgery); infection; numbness that does not fully recover; uneven sides; and an outline that looks over-corrected. Monitoring under general anesthesia matters for an operation like this, which is why I put the anesthesiologists at the top of this page.

Who should wait or skip it, as general medicine: anyone whose face is still growing, people who are pregnant or breastfeeding, anyone with a bleeding disorder or on blood thinners that can't be paused safely, anyone with an active infection in the teeth or gums, and anyone whose width is mostly muscle that injections could address.

If something feels wrong after you fly home, act on it. Rising swelling on one side, fever, discharge inside your mouth, or any difficulty breathing or swallowing means seeing a doctor at home the same day, then messaging the clinic on WhatsApp with a photo. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advises people who travel for surgery to arrange follow-up care at home before they leave and to carry copies of their medical records, and that is worth doing wherever you have surgery.

Healing and swelling vary from person to person, and whether you're a candidate at all is settled at the in-person exam in Seoul.

If you've had chin filler, an implant or earlier jaw surgery, that history shapes the plan more than anything else. On WhatsApp, write down what was done and when, attach any X-ray or CT image you already have, and ask whether that history changes what is possible for your jaw.

How many days should you plan in Seoul?

I won't give you a fixed number here, because the right stay follows the operation you actually have and how your swelling behaves. What I can give you is the shape of the trip.

Plan for the consultation, the exam and the CT to come before surgery, and keep that part of the trip light. An interpreter is provided, so you can ask everything in detail and read your written estimate before you agree to anything. Surgery is under general anesthesia, so plan nothing else for that day.

The days after are for swelling, stitches inside your mouth, soft food and keeping your head raised when you rest. Before you book your return flight, ask your surgeon how many days they want you in Seoul for checkups, then add a spare day. A long flight soon after surgery adds strain and raises the risk of blood clots, which is why the CDC's medical tourism guidance asks travelers to leave enough time to recover before flying home.

You can see how the centers are organized, and who covers contouring, on VG Plastic Surgery's English homepage.

When you're ready, send your travel dates on WhatsApp with the one question you most need answered before you book, for example whether your chin alone could be enough. One photo is enough to begin, no card details are needed, and you can ask before booking anything. When you come to Seoul, your surgeon examines your jaw with the CT and recommends the plan that fits your face, including a smaller one if that's all you need.

FAQ

Questions patients ask

Is a mini V line quoted differently from a full V line?

Usually, yes. A mini V line works on the chin and the front of the jaw only, so less operating time is involved than when the jaw angles are reshaped as well. Which one you need comes from the exam and CT, and the estimate is given in writing after that.

Do foreigners pay more for V line surgery at VG Plastic Surgery?

No. Foreigners pay the same surgical fee as Korean patients. What changes the figure is the plan for your jaw and chin, the anesthesia and hospital time, and the length of your stay.

Is “lipo lab v line” the same as V line surgery?

No. That search refers to fat-dissolving injections. They act on fat under the skin, cannot narrow bone and wear off over time, while V line surgery reshapes the jaw and chin bone itself. If your width is mostly fat or muscle, bone surgery may not be the right first step.

How long does chin filler last compared with V line surgery?

Hyaluronic acid filler is gradually absorbed over months, so it needs topping up to keep its shape. Bone removed in V line surgery does not grow back, though the skin and soft tissue over it keep aging as they would anyway.

Can I combine V line surgery with cheekbone reduction on one trip?

Many people ask about both, since cheekbone width and jaw width together set the outline of the face. Doing them in one session adds operating time, anesthesia time and swelling, which changes the quote and how long you should stay. Whether combining makes sense for you is something to discuss once the CT has been taken.

When will I see the final shape of my jawline?

Swelling in the lower face usually goes down gradually over weeks, and the final outline often takes several months to show. Judging the result in the first weeks tends to cause worry that later turns out to be unnecessary.
