The short answer
Found a figure called the average cost of breast augmentation in Korea, started saving toward it, and now wonder whether it will still be your number once you're in Seoul? An average blends implants and fat transfer, different incisions and different trip lengths, so it rarely matches one chest. Your figure comes from your measurements and the method that suits them.

You'll come away knowing which choices move the cost, how the implant and fat-transfer methods differ, which review claims are true and which aren't, and what recovery asks of a short trip. That makes it easier to see which method fits your body and your savings.
Hello, I'm Dr. Im Young Min, Chief Director and board-certified plastic surgeon at VG Plastic Surgery in Seoul. Breast and body surgery are among the centers I cover here.
At VG, an ultrasound of the breast comes first, and the implant and incision are chosen around it. Three board-certified anesthesiologists work here full time, one dedicated to each operation. Foreign patients are charged the same surgical fee as Korean patients.
I'm writing this because an average figure tempts people to pick the method that fits the number, when the method ought to fit the body.
No published average can tell you what your augmentation will cost, because two people paying for “breast augmentation” may be buying quite different operations. What you can get is a figure for the operation your chest actually needs.
If you'd like a first sense of which operation that is, send your height, weight and current bra size on WhatsApp, and ask whether implants or fat transfer make sense for your frame. That puts your own body at the center of the question.

Why does the average in a thread rarely match a real quote?
Searches for the average cost of breast augmentation in Korea mostly land on figures people have posted themselves. One person had implants through a fold incision, another had fat moved from the thighs, a third added a lift. Some figures include anesthesia, the hotel or post-op checks; others leave them out. Some are years old. Averaging them produces a number that describes no one's operation.
There's also a reason figures shift between a chat and the consultation room. A photo shows shape. It can't show how thick the breast tissue is, where the gland sits, or whether something needs checking first. That's why the ultrasound comes before the plan here, and why the plan, and the figure with it, can change afterwards.
Implant or your own fat: the methods behind the number
Implant augmentation places a silicone implant either under the breast tissue or partly under the chest muscle, through an incision that is commonly in the fold under the breast, at the edge of the areola, or in the armpit. The implant's size and shape are chosen from your chest width and how much tissue you have to cover it, and the incision follows from that. The guide to breast augmentation in Korea with ultrasound first walks through that order.
Fat transfer moves your own fat. It's taken by liposuction, often from the abdomen or thighs, purified, and injected in layers. As our homepage puts it, what counts isn't how much went in but how much of it stayed. Part of the injected fat is usually reabsorbed, so the gain from one session tends to be moderate, and some people choose a second session. The fat transfer breast augmentation guide covers who it suits.
Because fat transfer starts with liposuction, it's partly a body operation as well, and liposuction in Korea and what it changes explains the harvest side. Some people combine a smaller implant with fat on top to soften the edges, which brings both sets of factors into one plan.
What decides the average cost of breast augmentation in Korea for you?
In short, these are the choices that move your figure, roughly in the order they matter:
- Method. Implants, fat transfer or both. Fat transfer adds liposuction and may need a second session; implants add the device itself.
- Implant type and size. Different implants carry different costs, and the size is set by your chest width and tissue.
- Incision and placement. Where the incision goes, and whether the implant sits above or partly under the muscle, change the operating time.
- Anything added. A lift for drooping, or evening out a clear size difference. If the larger side is what bothers you, reducing that side is a different operation, covered in breast reduction in Korea and who it suits.
- Anesthesia time. Augmentation is usually done under general anesthesia, and longer operations take more of it.
- Days in Seoul. Post-op checks before you fly, plus hotel nights, sit inside your trip budget even when they sit outside the surgical fee.
- The years after. Implants aren't lifetime devices, so future imaging and a possible replacement belong in a long-term budget.
To get the figure for your own case, ask on WhatsApp what it would cost for your case, naming the method you're leaning toward.
What do breast augmentation reviews get right, and what do they miss?
Three claims come up again and again in review threads.
“My quote changed after the exam.” Often true, and usually for a medical reason. Ultrasound and an in-person look can change the implant size, the placement or the method, and the figure moves with them.
“Implants have to be replaced every ten years.” Not as a fixed rule. The US Food and Drug Administration says breast implants are not lifetime devices, and that the longer you have them, the more likely complications and further surgery become. There's no set expiry date; some people need another operation sooner, others much later. Plan for regular checks.
“Fat transfer is natural and lasts forever.” Partly true. The fat that survives behaves like your own tissue and generally stays, but part of it doesn't survive, and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons has noted that fat injected into the breast can create findings on mammograms that need a closer look. Tell whoever reads your mammograms at home that you've had fat grafting.
Threads also ask about the average breast size in Korea, as if it were a target. It isn't a useful one. An implant sized to match someone else's average can sit poorly on your frame, because your chest width and tissue thickness set what fits.
Say you're 28, teach English in Tokyo, and have two weeks over the winter break and a fixed savings goal. You're slim, with little fat on the abdomen or thighs. Fat transfer sounds appealing, but with little to harvest, the gain from one session may be small, and a second session means a second trip. In that case I'd talk you through a modestly sized implant chosen from your ultrasound and chest width, and ask how many check-ups your two weeks can hold before the flight. If you want a small change and do have fat to spare, the conversation goes the other way.
If you're slim and unsure whether fat transfer is even possible for you, mention where you carry most of your fat and the dates of your break in your WhatsApp message, and ask which method fits two weeks.

Recovery on a short trip
Recovery after augmentation tends to start with tightness and soreness across the chest for the first days, more when the implant sits under the muscle. A support bra, limited arm lifting and no heavy bags are typical for the first weeks. After fat transfer, the donor area, belly or thighs, often feels more bruised and sore than the breasts.
Ask how many days in Seoul to plan for your method before booking the return flight, and leave slack rather than flying the morning after a check. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advises medical travelers to arrange follow-up care at home before leaving, and notes that flying soon after surgery raises the risk of blood clots.
Keep a record of what was placed: implant type, size and the operation summary. If you'd like to see how the breast center sits alongside the others, the VG Plastic Surgery English homepage shows the surgical centers.
Risks and side effects to know
Common temporary effects are swelling, bruising, tightness and changed nipple or skin sensation. These usually ease over weeks to months, and the pace differs between people.
Longer-term risks the FDA lists for implants include capsular contracture (scar tissue tightening around the implant), rupture, the need for further surgery, and breast implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma, a rare cancer linked mostly to textured implants. Some people also report body-wide symptoms they attribute to their implants. With fat transfer, some fat can harden into lumps or cysts, which should be checked by a doctor.
You'd generally be advised to wait if you're pregnant, breastfeeding or planning a pregnancy soon, if you have a breast lump that hasn't been checked, if you have an active infection, or if you smoke and can't stop around surgery. Whether you're a candidate for a particular method is decided at the in-person exam, after the ultrasound.
If, once home, one breast swells suddenly or turns red and hot, or you develop fever, chest pain or shortness of breath, see an emergency doctor first, then send your operation summary and what you're noticing.
Your first message doesn't need photos. Your height, weight, bra size and one question are enough on WhatsApp, and you can ask before booking anything. The question worth asking is the one an average can't answer: what would my operation include? When you come to Seoul, the ultrasound comes first, and I'll recommend the method that fits your chest.

FAQ
Questions patients ask
Is the average cost of plastic surgery in Korea a useful guide for breast surgery?
Not really. A general average mixes eyelid, nose, contouring and body operations that differ in length, anesthesia and stay. Even within breast surgery, implants and fat transfer are priced from different parts, so ask about the operation you're actually considering.
Can I combine augmentation with liposuction elsewhere on the body?
Often both can be done in one operation, and fat transfer already includes liposuction by design. Combining lengthens anesthesia and adds a second area to recover, which can change how many days you'll want in Seoul.
Will I still be able to breastfeed after augmentation?
Many people can, but no one can promise it. An incision at the areola and the implant's placement may matter more than others, so if you plan to have children, raise it before the method is chosen.
Should I bring breast imaging from home?
If you're of screening age, or have had a lump checked recently, bring the latest results with you. At VG an ultrasound is done before the plan, and earlier imaging gives useful context alongside it.
Which incision leaves the least visible scar?
Each one trades something. The fold incision sits in the crease and gives direct access; the areola edge blends with the color change but may affect sensation more; the armpit keeps the breast itself unscarred but gives less direct access. Your implant size and tissue narrow the choice.
