Korean Men Plastic Surgery: A Stronger Nose, Not a Softer Face

A Seoul plastic surgeon explains what men actually ask for in Korea — mostly the nose — how a male nose is planned differently, what our nose team's male cases show, how long to stay and how the fee is set.

The short answer

For most men who fly to Seoul, plastic surgery means the nose: a bridge that is too low, a hump, a crooked line or a short, upturned tip. A male nose is planned to stay straight and strong rather than small and sharply turned up, and breathing is assessed in the same plan. Plan at least 7 days in Korea, or 14 days if the nasal bones are cut or it is a revision.

  • Most male requests we see are for the nose — height, a hump, a crooked bridge or a short tip — and the goal is a straighter, stronger line, not a smaller one.
  • Breathing is part of the same plan: 3D CT and an ENT examination are done on site before the shape is settled.
  • Stay at least 7 days in Seoul; 14 days when osteotomy is involved or for revision surgery.
  • International patients pay the same surgical fee as Korean patients, set out in one itemised written quote.
  • Square jaw and eyelid requests from men are planned separately — and an angular jaw is often something a man wants to keep.

Hello, I'm Im Young Min, chief director and board-certified plastic surgeon at VG Plastic Surgery in Seoul, and I operate across our nose, eye, contouring, anti-ageing and body centres. More of the messages I get from abroad now come from men, and they usually open the same way: what does Korean men plastic surgery actually involve, and will I still look like a man afterwards? This is the answer I give in consultation.

Korean men plastic surgery: what men usually ask for

When people search for male plastic surgery in Korea, they often picture a full makeover. That is not what walks into my consultation room. The men I see tend to name one feature, and in most cases it is the nose.

My broader guide to Korean plastic surgery across eyes, nose, contouring, lifts and breast covers every category. This article stays with men, and with the nose, because that is where most of the questions are. Our rhinoplasty centre page compares the four ways we rebuild a nose, from no implant to rib cartilage.

What men most often bring to us, and how it is planned
What he saysWhat it usually points toWhat decides the method
"My nose looks flat from the front"A low or narrow bridgeSkin thickness, how much height your own structure can carry
"I have a bump on my nose"A dorsal humpWhether the bones need narrowing after the hump is taken down
"It leans to one side"A deviated bridge, often with a deviated septum3D CT and the ENT examination
"My nostrils show too much" (snub nose)A short or upturned tipHow much the tip can be lengthened — often with cartilage
"One side always blocks"Septum, turbinate or nasal valveENT assessment inside the same surgical plan

Why a male nose is planned differently

The operations themselves are the same ones we use for any patient. What changes is the target. Most men want a bridge that runs straight and strong from the brow down, a tip that does not turn up sharply, and nostrils that do not show from the front.

So I measure before I suggest anything. Bridge height, the width of the bone and how thick the skin sits over it differ from person to person. Thick skin over the tip hides small changes, so a plan that only works on paper is no use to you.

  • No implant — crushed autologous cartilage layered along the bridge through a minimal incision
  • Fit-Me custom implant — a 1:1 implant designed from a 3D scan of your nose, ready before surgery day
  • Rib cartilage — your own, or donor, carved to fit; used for revision, contracture and short noses
  • Breathing work — septum and nasal valve read on 3D CT and endoscopy, with a board-certified ENT specialist on staff

The photos below are cases from our nose surgery team, all three months after surgery. In the hump and crooked-nose case, the hump is gone from the profile, but the bridge is still high and the tip has not been turned up.

Snub nose, low bridge, thick tip: the male cases we see

A snub nose in men is a common reason to write to us. The tip sits short and upturned, so the nostrils are visible from the front. Lengthening a short nose usually needs structural support, which is why rib cartilage comes up so often in these consultations.

In this short-nose case with donor rib cartilage and nostril reduction, the tip now points forward instead of up. The two other photos show own-rib-cartilage cases from the same nose surgery team, also at three months: the bridge is raised and continues into the tip as one line.

The other common male request is a broad, rounded tip. Reducing it is less about making the tip small and more about giving it shape, so it reads cleanly from three-quarter view. My colleague's guide to the Korean nose job and how each method is chosen goes further into tip work.

Send a front and a side photo of your nose, and I'll tell you which of the four methods your structure points to.

Coming to Seoul: stay, recovery and follow-up

Plastic surgery for men in Korea runs on the same schedule as for anyone else. Rhinoplasty takes 1–3 hours under sedation or general anaesthesia, and you usually go back to the hotel the same day. A night in our inpatient room is advised for revision.

You can wash your hair from the day after surgery, keeping water off the nose. An interpreter sits with you through consultation, the design confirmation on surgery morning and every follow-up visit. The same team follows you for three months after you fly home, by photograph review and written replies — the international patient page sets out pickup, hotels and interpretation.

On cost: international patients pay the same surgical fee as Korean patients. A published figure for rhinoplasty is only true for one specific plan, so after consultation you receive one itemised written quote, before you decide anything. What moves it is the method, the graft material and whether breathing work is added.

Square jaw, eyelids and other requests from men

Men also ask about the jaw, but the question is different from the one women bring. For many square jaw men, the angle is part of a masculine face, and I tell them that plainly before we talk about reducing it. Contouring is bone surgery under general anaesthesia with a stay of at least 14 days; my colleague compares the options in Korean jawline surgery: square angle or long-curve reduction. The male chest is a separate question, which I cover in gynecomastia surgery cost in Korea.

Eyelids come up most with men in their forties and older, when a heavy upper lid or drooping lid makes them look tired. Eye surgery takes 30 minutes to 2 hours under sedation, and a stay of at least 7 days is enough.

What I check first in consultation

Then I look at the forehead, the chin and the jaw, because a man's nose has to sit in proportion to them. A bridge that would look right on a narrow face can look out of place on a broad one.

When I tell men to wait — and the risks

  • An active sinus or nasal infection — we treat it first and reconsult afterwards
  • A height your own nasal structure cannot safely support
  • You cannot stop smoking around the operation — rib cartilage and revision cases heal notably worse
  • Facial growth is not yet complete

Swelling peaks within the first week, between days 3 and 7 depending on the type. Healing differs from person to person, which is why the final shape is judged at six months or later, not in the first weeks.

If you are weighing Korean men plastic surgery and want to see more male cases, our full before-and-after archive is there to browse, and the results on our nose page can be filtered to men. You can read about my training and the centres I operate in, and the rhinoplasty centre page sets out each method side by side — the place to start before you send photos.

Send your photos on WhatsApp, and you'll get a reply on which method fits your nose and how many days to plan in Seoul.

FAQ

Questions patients ask

What is the most common Korean men plastic surgery?

In our consultations it is rhinoplasty — raising a low bridge, taking down a hump, straightening a crooked nose or lengthening a short tip. Eyelid surgery and jaw requests follow, and each is planned separately.

Will rhinoplasty make my face look feminine?

It should not, if it is planned for a man. The aim is a straight, strong bridge and a tip that does not turn up sharply, set in proportion to your forehead, chin and jaw. Looking at male cases at three months is the clearest way to judge this.

How long should a man stay in Korea for a nose job?

At least 7 days for most rhinoplasty, and 14 days when osteotomy is involved or for revision surgery. Stitches come out on days 5–7, and the exact dates are set with you at consultation.

Can a snub nose in men be corrected?

Often, yes. A short, upturned tip is usually lengthened with structural support, frequently rib cartilage — your own or donor. How much length your nose can take is decided at examination, not promised in advance.

Can my breathing problem be fixed at the same time?

It is assessed at the same time. We have 3D CT on site and a board-certified ENT specialist on staff, so the septum and nasal valve are read before the shape is settled. How much breathing changes is something we tell you after the examination.

Do foreign men pay more for plastic surgery in Korea?

No. International patients pay the same surgical fee as Korean patients. You receive one itemised written quote after consultation, before you decide anything.

This article explains general medical information. Whether surgery suits you, and which method, is decided only after a consultation with the surgeon.
