Korea Chin Implant Cost KRW: Does Your Chin Need an Implant at All? Methods, Reviews and Recovery

The won figure for a chin implant in Korea follows what your chin needs. An implant suits a chin set back in profile; long, square or witch chins usually need another method, and that changes the cost.

The short answer

Worried that the Korea chin implant cost KRW figure in your chat won't hold once a surgeon in Seoul actually looks at your profile? The won figure moves with what your chin needs: an implant alone, moving or trimming the bone, or work on the jawline around it. An implant suits a chin that sits too far back, while a long, square or “witch” chin usually calls for a different method, and that choice changes the figure more than any other factor.

  • A chin implant brings a set-back chin forward; it cannot shorten or narrow one.
  • Long, square and witch chins usually call for bone or soft-tissue methods, and that changes the figure.
  • The method, areas planned alongside, anesthesia, previous work and your days in Seoul decide the cost.
  • Foreign patients pay the same surgery fee as Korean patients, with the estimate in writing.

By the end you'll know what a chin implant does and who it suits, the methods people compare, what reviews get right and wrong, how recovery fits a trip, and what decides the cost, so you can tell which approach fits your chin and your budget.

Hello, I'm Dr. Im Young Min, Chief Director and board-certified plastic surgeon at VERYGOOD Plastic Surgery in Gangnam, Seoul. I trained at Seoul St. Mary's Hospital, and facial contouring is one of the five centers I work across.

Three facts here matter for a chin. For facial contouring, nerves and bone thickness are mapped on CT. Three board-certified anesthesiologists are on staff and one is dedicated to every operation, so the surgeon does nothing but operate. And foreign patients pay the same surgery fee as Korean patients, with the estimate in writing.

I'm writing this because many people price an implant before anyone has checked whether their chin is set back, too long or too wide, and those are three different operations.

If you already have a won figure from a chat, send it on WhatsApp with one side-profile photo, teeth together and lips relaxed, and ask which chin shape that figure assumes.

What does a chin implant actually do?

A chin implant is a shaped piece of solid material placed on the front of the lower jawbone to bring the chin forward. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons describes it the same way: for an under-projected chin, an implant is typically placed directly on the bone.

It adds projection, and a little height depending on its shape. It cannot shorten, narrow or lift anything. Think of it as adding a step to the front of a staircase: the edge comes out, but nothing gets taken away. If what bothers you in the mirror is length or width, an implant usually makes it worse.

Two more things decide how an implant reads on your face. The soft tissue over the chin varies in thickness, and thick tissue blurs what sits underneath, for the same reason thick skin limits the tip in Asian rhinoplasty. And a chin is judged against the nose and lips in profile, so a chin that looks small is sometimes partly a nose that looks large.

Which method suits your chin: implant, sliding genioplasty or reduction?

The shape you have decides the method far more than the budget does. Here is how the common chin complaints usually line up.

Your chinWhat usually sits behind itMethods usually discussed
Sits back in profile (receding chin)Bone set back, height in proportionImplant, or sliding genioplasty
Long chinToo much vertical boneReducing bone height; an implant tends to add length
Square or wide chinA broad bony frontNarrowing the bone, often planned with the jawline
“Witch chin”A soft-tissue pad that has slid down, with a crease under itSoft-tissue repositioning; an implant alone often leaves the crease

The comparison people search most is sliding genioplasty vs chin implant. An implant adds material on top of the bone. Sliding genioplasty cuts the lower edge of the chin bone and moves your own bone forward, back, up or down before fixing it in place, so it can correct length and asymmetry as well as projection. It is a bigger operation that works closer to the nerve supplying feeling to the lower lip, which is where CT mapping earns its place. I compared the two in more detail in implant or moving the bone.

“Chin shaving” is the everyday name for trimming bone, usually to reduce length or width. Bone does not grow back, so the planning question is how little needs to go. If your bite itself is off, the problem may be the jaws rather than the chin; that is orthognathic surgery, which we don't perform here. The surgical centers, facial contouring among them, are described on VERYGOOD's English homepage.

Say you're 30, your chin sits well behind your lower lip in profile, your lower face looks in proportion, and your teeth meet normally. That is the shape an implant is meant for, and I'd usually start the conversation there, because it does the one thing you need. Now say your chin is already long and your lower lip strains to close over your teeth. An implant would lengthen your face further. I'd talk about reducing height instead, and I'd tell you plainly that an implant isn't for you.

If you've had filler or an implant in your chin before, mention it on WhatsApp along with the one question you most want answered: implant, bone, or neither?

What decides the cost in KRW for your chin

A Korea chin implant cost KRW figure given before anyone has seen your profile is a guess about which row of that table you're in. These are what move it:

  • The method. An implant alone, bone moved or reduced, or soft-tissue work are different operations with different operating times.
  • What's planned alongside. A chin is often planned with the jawline or the nose, and combining areas changes the operation and the fee.
  • Anesthesia. The anesthetic approach is chosen for each patient, and the length of the operation shapes it.
  • Previous work. Removing or replacing an earlier implant takes more than a first operation.
  • Imaging and tests. Bone work involves CT, and your general health may call for other checks before surgery.
  • Your days in Seoul. Hotel, meals and transport sit on your side of the budget, separate from the surgery fee.

Foreign patients pay the same surgery fee here as Korean patients, and the estimate is given in writing. To get the number for your own chin, ask on WhatsApp what it would cost for your case and attach the side photo.

What reviews get right and wrong about chin implants

Threads that turn up beside a Korea chin implant cost KRW search tend to repeat the same few claims. Some hold up and some don't.

“It's a quick, minor operation.” Partly true. An implant is usually shorter and less invasive than moving bone, but it is still surgery, with anesthesia, swelling and a risk of infection.

“Implants always shift or look fake.” Not always. An implant can move or show an edge, and the risk rises when it is too large for the soft tissue covering it or the pocket is loose. Size and placement matter more than the fact of having an implant.

“A numb lip means something went wrong.” Not necessarily. Changed feeling in the lower lip and chin can follow chin surgery, more often after bone work because the nerve exits close by, and it often improves gradually. Numbness that doesn't change over months deserves a check.

“A ranked list tells you where to go.” A list can't show your bone, which is the point of five things a clinic list can't show about your bone.

How does recovery fit a trip to Seoul?

For chin augmentation, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons notes that mild swelling may last a few days and people usually return to work within a week. Bone work generally means more swelling for longer, and a tighter feeling around the mouth while it settles.

Implants are placed through an incision either inside the mouth or under the chin. An incision inside the mouth usually means careful rinsing and softer food for a while, which matters if your trip includes eating out every night.

I won't put a number of days in Seoul here, because it depends on the method and on anything planned alongside. Ask how many days to plan for your method before booking flights, and leave a spare day rather than a tight return. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's medical tourism guidance also advises getting copies of your medical records and planning follow-up care for when you're home, so bring the operation record to your own doctor.

What can go wrong, and who should wait?

Risks and side effects to know

Most people have swelling, some bruising, tightness and a stiff smile for a while; with an incision inside the mouth, the inside of the lower lip is sore at first. Changed feeling in the lower lip or chin can occur and often fades gradually. Recovery differs from person to person, and whether surgery suits you is settled by an in-person exam.

Less common problems include infection, an implant that shifts or sits unevenly, an edge you can feel or see, and some remodeling of the bone under an implant over time. After bone work, longer-lasting numbness is possible because the nerve is close. Any implant is something you live with for years, and the long-term thinking behind Korean breast implants and their long-term checks applies to a chin as well.

As a general rule, wait or talk it through first if you have an active infection in the mouth or teeth, are pregnant or breastfeeding, smoke, take blood thinners, or have a bite problem that points to the jaws rather than the chin.

If redness, heat, rising swelling, discharge or fever appear after you fly home, see a doctor there promptly and bring your operation record.

If the Korea chin implant cost KRW figure is what you came for, the first WhatsApp message can be short: your travel month and the one thing you most want to know, such as whether an implant alone would do it. You can ask before booking anything. When you come to Seoul, I examine your chin and profile in person and recommend the approach that fits, even when that is a smaller operation than you planned.

FAQ

Questions patients ask

Do foreign patients pay a different fee in won?

No. Foreign patients pay the same surgery fee as Korean patients, and the estimate is given in writing. What changes the figure is the method and what is planned with it.

Can a chin implant fix a long chin?

Usually not. An implant adds projection and some height, so on a chin that is already long it tends to lengthen the lower face further. A long chin is more often addressed by reducing bone height.

Sliding genioplasty vs chin implant: which lasts longer?

Moved bone is your own bone and heals in its new position. An implant stays as long as it is left in place and can be removed or replaced later if needed. The choice usually rests on what your chin needs to change.

Is a chin implant reversible?

In general an implant can be taken out, and removal is a smaller step than changing bone. The tissue around it has adapted, though, so the chin may not look exactly as it did before.

Who looks after me while I'm under anesthesia?

Three board-certified anesthesiologists are on staff, and one is dedicated to every operation, watching blood pressure, pulse and breathing from the first injection until you are awake again. They do not perform cosmetic surgery.

Can I combine a chin implant with rhinoplasty?

Many people plan the chin with the nose because the two are read together in profile. Combining them changes the operation, the anesthesia time and the fee, so mention both areas in your first message.
