Four Checkpoints Between an endotine forehead lift in Korea and Your Flight Home
For most people travelling from the US, the UK or Australia for an endotine forehead lift in Korea, the hard part is that flight: whether a taped forehead and swollen brows can sit through a long-haul cabin, and who looks at the scalp incisions once you've landed.

The short answer
Wondering whether an endotine forehead lift in Korea is workable when you live a long flight away?
- The American Society of Plastic Surgeons describes initial wound healing after a brow lift as 10 to 14 days.
- Endotine is a bioabsorbable fixation device that holds the lifted forehead while the tissue reattaches.
- The flight home usually comes after stitches or clips are removed, and the CDC flags blood clots when flying soon after surgery.
- ASPS advises against putting ice or heat on the forehead after a brow lift.
It is worth reading on before you book a flight or a date.

After this post you will know what the Endotine part means, what the first two weeks of healing look like, what to expect on cost, and when the flight home fits, so you can decide whether the trip makes sense for you.
Hello, I'm Dr. Im Young Min, Chief Director and a board-certified plastic surgeon.
I hold a Ph.D. in Medicine, did my internship and residency at Seoul St. Mary's Hospital, and am a full member of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS).
I wrote this because many people assume the surgery is the hard part, when for overseas patients it is usually the taped forehead, the swelling and the cabin of a long-haul flight.
The short answer: a forehead lift can be planned around a trip, but the flight home is the part to schedule first, and the check before you fly is what sets it.

What the Endotine part of the name means
Endotine is the brand name of a small bioabsorbable fixation device used in endoscopic forehead and brow lifts. Published descriptions, from the first report in Aesthetic Surgery Journal in 2003 to a 2005 paper in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, present it as an implant that holds the lifted forehead with multipoint, distributed tension while the tissue reattaches, and that the body then absorbs.
The device holds the lift in place; the operation itself is the forehead lift, done through short incisions behind the hairline. Whether a dissolving device like this or another fixation method suits your forehead is decided at the in-person examination, along with whether a forehead lift or a sub-brow lift fits where your brows actually sit. On our site, the anti-aging centre looks at which layer has actually descended before choosing the direction of the pull.
Two photos say more than a description: one with your face relaxed and one with your eyebrows raised as far as they go, both straight on and in daylight.

The first two weeks, checkpoint by checkpoint
Four moments decide when you can book the flight: the wrap coming off, the swelling turning, the bruising fading, and the stitches or clips coming out. ASPS says your forehead may be taped or your head loosely wrapped at first, a thin drain may be used, and initial wound healing may take 10 to 14 days.
| When | What usually happens | What it means for the trip |
|---|---|---|
| Surgery day | Forehead taped or head loosely wrapped; a thin drain is sometimes placed | A quiet night in a hotel close to 635 Nonhyeon-ro, Gangnam |
| Days 1–3 | Swelling and bruising are often at their most visible | Head kept up, including in bed; no plans beyond rest |
| Days 4–9 | Bruising starts to fade and makeup can cover much of it | Short walks are fine; no vigorous exercise |
Swelling often drifts downward in the first days, into the upper lids and around the eyes. People are regularly surprised to see puffy eyelids after an operation done above the hairline, and it's one reason sunglasses belong in your bag. ASPS notes that healing carries on for weeks after the first fortnight, as swelling dissipates and the incision lines refine and fade, and that full recovery may take several months.
So picture the calendar from the start. Land on a Thursday, and the consultation and pre-operative checks come first. From surgery day, count two weeks of healing, then the day your stitches or clips come out, then the flight after it.
Why ice and heat stay off your forehead
ASPS tells brow-lift patients not to apply ice or heat to the area, which surprises anyone used to icing a bruise. One reason surgeons commonly give is that the forehead and scalp can feel numb for a while after a lift, so skin can be harmed by cold or heat you can't feel properly. Keeping your head elevated and skipping vigorous activity for as long as your surgeon recommends is the other half of the same ASPS advice.
When can you fly home after a forehead lift?
After your stitches or clips are out and the incisions have been checked, which for most people falls inside that 10-to-14-day window. The CDC's medical-tourism guidance names blood clots among the risks of flying soon after surgery, so a long-haul flight in the first days isn't a plan to build around.
Two calendars cover most trips. The tighter one lands you in Seoul a day or two before surgery and books the return just after stitch or clip removal. The roomier one adds a couple of spare days after removal, so that a slower incision or a late check doesn't mean changing a long-haul ticket at the airport. For an endotine forehead lift in Korea, the second calendar asks for a little more leave and takes the pressure off the last appointment.
Say you are flying in from Sydney and need to be back at your desk by a fixed date. You message a photo and the date. I would look at how high your brows sit, how heavy the skin over the eyes is, and then work backwards from your return flight to see how many days of healing you would have in Korea and which check you must pass before boarding.
Review threads often repeat quick claims about how fast swelling goes or how visible the scalp incisions are, but both vary from person to person, so I would rely on your own examination rather than a thread. If that timetable is too tight, the sensible answer may be to move the date, not to rush the flight.
What decides the cost of an endotine forehead lift?
The cost is not one fixed item, because it depends on what your forehead needs. The method matters first: how the lift is done and how the Endotine device is used for fixation. The area and amount of lifting come next, and whether the brows alone are involved or the eyelids are done at the same time. The type of anaesthesia, how many days you stay in Korea, and the follow-up checks before you fly home also change the plan.
Two people asking for the same procedure can end up with different plans for these reasons. To get the figure for your case, send a clear photo of your forehead on WhatsApp and ask for it there.
Risks of a forehead lift, plus two that a long trip adds
ASPS patient information on facial lifting surgery lists bleeding, infection, nerve injury, numbness, hair loss along the incisions and asymmetry among the possible risks. Distance adds two more: blood clots on a long flight soon after surgery, and being far from your surgeon if something changes after you've left.
With a dissolving device, it's reasonable to ask whether you might feel it under the scalp while the body absorbs it, and for how long. Brows can also settle at slightly different heights, or higher than planned, which gives a startled look; small differences in the first weeks are often swelling. Healing differs from person to person, and none of the timings above is a promise for your own forehead.
If your leave has a hard end date, that date is the most useful thing you can send.

A lift, a reduction or the eyelids: three different targets
Some searches that land on forehead lifting are really about something else. Forehead reduction lowers the hairline to shorten a tall forehead, which makes it a different operation from a lift, where the brows are raised and the forehead skin is smoothed.
Deep lines that appear when you raise your eyebrows can come from heavy upper lids, because the forehead muscle works all day to hold the brows up. In that case the lids may be where to start, and how eyelid changes show up in dated photos is a useful read first. If the heaviness sits lower, in the cheeks and along the jaw, finding which layer dropped before choosing a face lift and comparing deep plane lifts by layer cover that ground.
Mouth corners that turn down at rest are a separate question again, covered in the smile lift for down-turned corners.
What to pack for the flight back
Paperwork first. The CDC advises getting copies of your medical records before you head home, and for a forehead lift that means the name of the operation, the fixation method used, the date your stitches or clips came out and the list of medicines you were sent home with. A local doctor reading those can pick up where Seoul left off.
An interpreter is included at VG Plastic Surgery, so go through the aftercare instructions until every line is clear in English before you leave. Take a photo of your forehead each morning in the same light; a dated series is easier to judge than memory, and reading photos by date and angle explains why. Pack a soft travel pillow so you can keep your head up on the plane.
Before you book any flights, send one photo of your forehead on WhatsApp, along with the last day you need to be back at work. Then ask me one question: "Does my trip length work for an endotine forehead lift?" One photo is enough, and you can ask before booking anything. When you come to Seoul, I examine you in person and recommend what fits your forehead and your travel dates.

FAQ
Questions patients ask
Does the Endotine device stay in my forehead for good?
No. Published papers describe it as a bioabsorbable fixation device, which the body absorbs gradually after it has held the lifted forehead in place. Ask your surgeon whether you may feel it under the scalp while that happens, and for roughly how long.
How soon can I go back to work after a forehead lift?
ASPS says you should be ready to return to work and normal activity after initial wound healing, which may take 10 to 14 days. Full recovery may take several months as swelling settles and incision lines fade. Physical jobs may need longer than desk work.
Will the forehead lift incisions show?
Endoscopic forehead lifts use short incisions behind the hairline, so they're usually hidden by hair. ASPS notes that incision lines refine and fade over weeks. Hair loss along the incisions is a listed risk, so ask how the incisions are planned for your hairline.
Can a forehead lift be combined with upper eyelid surgery?
Brows and upper lids are often assessed together, because a low brow pushes skin down onto the lid. Combining them changes the recovery calendar, so plan your stay around the longer of the two healing periods.
Do I need to speak Korean for the consultation?
No. VG Plastic Surgery includes an interpreter, so the consultation and aftercare instructions can be gone through in English. Writing your questions down before the visit helps you cover them all.
