EYES

Eye surgery

Eye surgery changes your expression, not just the size of your eyes.

Eye surgery before and after — case 519
BEFOREAFTER

The same double eyelid line behaves differently depending on eyelid thickness, how much fat sits under the skin and how strong the muscle that lifts your eye is. We measure those three first, then decide whether an incision is needed at all.

VERYGOOD EYES

What makes eye surgery here different

Eye surgery is not one shape applied to everyone. We design around your eye and your face, and consult and operate one to one.

  1. One-to-one design

The shape of the eye, how strongly it opens, the muscle, skin thickness and facial asymmetry are all examined, so the crease that results belongs to your face.

  2. Years of operating

Our eye team's technique comes from a large volume of eye surgery, and is recognised for difficult cases including revision.

  3. Faster recovery, minimal scarring

Long experience means we do not over-resect tissue or fix too deeply, which keeps scarring to a minimum.

Precision analysis

Eye surgery depends on a thorough consultation and an analysis of the eye as it is now — that is what decides the direction of surgery.

  • Facial proportion
  • Eye shape
  • Eye length and spacing
  • Height of the eye tail
  • Pupil size
  • Whether ptosis is present
  • Skin thickness and eye muscle

Our surgical safety system

We put the patient first and treat satisfaction as the measure that matters, working continuously to give each patient the best result and care.

  1. Precision analysis

Before surgery we analyse your condition in detail so the operation fits it.

  2. One surgeon, start to finish

No ghost doctors. One dedicated eye surgeon performs the whole operation to the end.

  3. Emergency equipment on site

Safety is considered down to what you never see — hospital-grade emergency equipment and systems are in place.

  4. Named anaesthesiologist

A board-certified anaesthesiologist is resident, under a named-doctor system built so surgery is done safely.

  5. Structured aftercare

Recovery care and scheduled follow-up visits track how the result settles.

  6. Sterilisation and disinfection

Infection prevention runs on a sterilisation system, with hygiene managed thoroughly and to a schedule.

TECHNIQUES

Eye surgery is not one operation

Several different techniques sit under the name Eye surgery. Which one applies depends on what the examination finds, and each carries its own recovery. Below are the operations we actually perform in this category.

Which line do you want

LINE STYLE

The same surgery reads differently depending on how the line is set. We choose together from four.

Tucked at the front, opening outward toward the tail. The most chosen line.

Which line suits you depends on lid thickness and eye shape. We decide it in person.

  1. Non-incision ptosis correction

Eyes look sleepy not because of the crease but because the muscle that lifts the eyelid is weak. Through three small openings that muscle is tightened so the eye opens wider, with no incision line. Swelling settles relatively quickly.

    Back to daily life3–5 days

  2. Natural-adhesion double eyelid

A crease is formed by fixing the lid to the tissue beneath through tiny openings rather than a full incision. The line reads softer, the swelling comes down fast, and it can be revised later more easily than a cut crease.

    Back to daily life3–5 days

  3. Bling eye

Natural adhesion crease and non-incisional ptosis correction in one. A crease alone leaves the eye the same size; adjusting the muscle that lifts the lid at the same time makes it read larger and clearer while staying natural.

    Back to daily life3–5 days

  4. Epicanthoplasty (inner corner)

The fold covering the inner corner is opened, so the eye reads longer and the distance between the eyes looks shorter. It is almost always combined with a crease procedure, because on its own it changes proportion but not lid shape.

    Back to daily life5–7 days

  5. Triple epicanthoplasty

Inner, outer and lower corners opened together so the eye widens both horizontally and vertically. We measure how much hidden space each eye actually has and open only that much. Used when the eye is short and an inner opening alone has nowhere to go.

    Back to daily life5–7 days

  6. Dual epicanthoplasty

Inner and outer corners together. The mongolian fold at the front is opened and length is added toward the tail, so the proportion reads evenly rather than stretched at one end.

    Back to daily life5–7 days

Swelling lasts longer

Stay in Korea

At least 7 days

  1. Under-eye fat repositioning

The fat bulging under the eye is not removed but moved down into the hollow below it, filling the dark groove instead of leaving an empty one. That is why removing the fat alone often makes people look older, not younger.

    Back to daily life7–10 days

  2. Upper blepharoplasty

Loose upper-lid skin is removed along the natural crease, so the lid stops resting on the lashes and the eye opens again. For many patients this is as much a functional operation as an aesthetic one.

    Back to daily life7–10 days

  3. Epicanthoplasty restoration

When a corner was opened too far and the inner or outer edge looks unnatural, the opening is closed back toward its original shape. Exposed conjunctiva or a lid that has turned outward is treated here too.

    Back to daily life7–10 days

  4. Incisional ptosis correction

The lifting muscle is adjusted directly through the lid crease. It is more precise and holds better than the non-incision route, and it is what we choose when the lid is heavy or the muscle is clearly weak. The trade-off is a longer, more visible swelling period.

    Back to daily life10–14 days

  5. Incisional double eyelid

The crease is made through a full incision, so excess skin and fat can be removed at the same time. This is the durable choice for thick lids or when skin has to come off — and you should plan for about two weeks.

    Back to daily life10–14 days

  6. Lower blepharoplasty

Skin as well as fat is addressed, through an incision just under the lash line. It is the right call when the skin itself has loosened — and it is the reason this needs more recovery than repositioning alone.

Adjusted at consultation

  1. Eye revision surgery

A second operation works with scar tissue, an existing crease line and whatever the first surgery changed. We plan it from your photographs and, ideally, your previous records — and we say plainly when the safest answer is to leave it alone.

HONEST FIRST

Who this suits — and who it does not

Hiding the cases we turn away in a footnote is not honesty, it is a disclaimer. If the right-hand column describes you, we will say so in the consultation.

This usually helps if

The conditions we most often confirm during consultation.

  • You raise your forehead and eyebrows to open your eyes, leaving lines on your foreheadSee 48 cases with this concern
  • Your double eyelid line keeps fading, or the two sides no longer match
  • People often tell you that you look sleepy, and you want the shape of the eye itself to change
  • A previous eyelid surgery healed unnaturally and you are considering revisionSee 42 cases with this concern

We do not recommend surgery if

Cases where we postpone surgery or suggest another route first.

  • Untreated dry eye or blepharitis — we ask you to see an ophthalmologist first
  • A travel schedule too short for stitch removal and the first follow-up in Korea
  • You want the exact eyes from a celebrity photo — a different eyelid structure cannot produce the same shape
  • Pregnancy, or an uncontrolled thyroid or bleeding disorder

REVISION

Thinking about revision surgery

What can be done depends on which case you are in. These are the seven types we actually work with.

  1. Why it happens
Usually seen when the line was designed too large, or the fixation point was set too high.
    How it is corrected
We measure the distance from brow to crease and from crease to lashes, along with the tone of the levator muscle and how prominent the eye is. The existing crease is released, unnecessary scar tissue removed, and fat repositioned so the crease sits lower and looks natural.
  2. Why it happens
One crease has loosened, or the original surgery set the two lines differently — sometimes at the same height but at different depths.
    How it is corrected
The existing crease is released and the length, depth and height of the line are adjusted to your proportions. Where needed, ptosis correction is done at the same time to bring the two sides level.
  3. Why it happens
The fixation was too weak, soft tissue around the line was not fully removed, or ptosis was never corrected.
    How it is corrected
If the skin is thin and there is little scar tissue, non-incisional ptosis correction with the natural adhesion method is enough. Where scarring is heavy or the skin is thick, an incisional revision or ptosis correction is used.
  4. Why it happens
Skin has loosened since surgery, or the crease was set low from the start.
    How it is corrected
The loosened skin is lifted and fixed, or the crease is set higher to reach the shape you want.
  5. Why it happens
Ptosis was present but was not corrected — only the crease was made.
    How it is corrected
Ptosis correction opens the eye so it reads larger and clearer.
  6. Why it happens
Scarring can worsen with depth, so the degree of the existing ptosis correction or the depth of the crease fixation can be adjusted.
    How it is corrected
If there is enough lid skin, the scarred section is removed and closed again. Where needed, fat repositioning or fat grafting builds a new crease at a natural depth.
  7. Why it happens
Nothing went wrong in surgery — the shape or height of the line simply is not what you wanted.
    How it is corrected
We take the time in consultation to understand exactly the line you want, and correct to it.

Revision is best done at least 6 months after the first surgery.

Send a photo of how your eyes look now and we will tell you which type it is closest to. If you have records from the first surgery, send those too.

SAFETY

What we have in place

The further you travel, the heavier this question gets. If something goes wrong you cannot simply come back the next day, and there may be no one beside you who speaks your language.

  1. Analysis before surgery

We analyse the face before surgery to decide what to address and how far to go.

  2. The doctor who consults, operates

One doctor handles the consultation, the diagnosis, the surgery and the follow-up. Your surgeon does not change partway.

  3. Emergency readiness

Medical equipment and response procedures are in place for emergencies during surgery.

  4. Anaesthesiologists on site

Board-certified anaesthesiology specialists are on site, and we publish who administers your anaesthesia.

    See the anaesthesiologists

  5. Follow-up after surgery

We schedule your visits for suture removal and healing checks together with you.

  6. Sterilisation

Instruments and the operating room follow disinfection and sterilisation procedures to prevent infection.

I had upper eyelid surgery with Dr. Yang Jong Phil and I’m really happy with how it’s gone so far. From the first consultation, the clinic was responsive and easy to communicate with — my questions were answered quickly and I never felt rushed or left in the dark. On the day of surgery, the staff were attentive and made sure I was comfortable throughout. Dr. Yang took real care with the design, which I think makes all the difference with eyelid work. I’m now at day 7 post-op and while I know there’s still healing ahead, the results already look natural and well-balanced. Very glad I chose this clinic and would recommend them.

I would like to share my experience with the VG Clinic. I am on my way home now after a deep plane face and neck lift, forehead lift and reduction, platysmaplasty and lower blepharoplasty It all went very well despite the multiple procedures. It was quite an experience, but the clinic gently guided me though those first two weeks with many check ups. I’m really happy with the results and highly recommend Dr Im Young Min and all the staff at the VG Clinic. Thank you very much! Birgitte

I had wonderful experience at Very Good plastic surgery. I had deep plane face and neck lift, lower blepharoplasty and breast augmentation revision. Dr. Im Young Min was professional on his work, highly recommended to anyone who is considering to have the plastic surgery. Pre-, post- operation was all well managed from the VG, hyper barric chamber and de swelling light was really helpful. Special thanks for Smile, Lilit and Jenny for taking good care of me. After 1 year I came. Back for another procedure because I was very happy and felt very safe in that clinic with Dr Im young Min Everything went well the team is always very supportive and friendly and professional I really recommend the clinic

  • Maria Stoegerer5.0 · 2026-07

I had an excellent experience at VG Plastic Surgery. From the very beginning, the entire team was incredibly professional, kind, and supportive. I had a face and brow-lift, as well as a lower blepharoplasty I traveled to Seoul on my own, so I was naturally a little nervous beforehand. However, the team—especially Jenny—made me feel welcome, cared for, and reassured every step of the way. I always felt that someone was there whenever I had a question or needed assistance. Dr. Im Young Min is an outstanding surgeon and a truly compassionate doctor. He took the time to listen, explain everything thoroughly, and made me feel completely at ease. His professionalism, expertise, and genuine care gave me great confidence throughout the entire process. The organization, communication, aftercare, and personal support were exceptional. Everything was handled smoothly, and I felt well looked after from my first consultation until my recovery. I am very happy with my experience and the results, and I would highly recommend VG Plastic Surgery to anyone considering treatment in Seoul. Thank you to Dr. Im Young Min, Jenny, and the entire team for making this such a positive experience!
